I assume the staff will be suitably renumerated via a large bonus and the Company will be making a large donation to WBDC for facilities for the town?? wink.gif

Dream on. Vodafone haven't given a xxxx about Newbury since their senior management decamped to Paddington.

Good for them. Might stem further job cuts, which is better for Newbury than giving WBC more money to waste.

The old guard who set up in Newbury have all retired, and the new top brass understandably don't have the same connection with the town. A lot of their local patronage was also designed to provide good PR after the HQ planning scrap, when they were accused of corporate bullying and WBC were out of their depth.

I have been told that staff got treated to a free lunch in the canteen today, apart from that they don't think they will get anything else.

At least they are employing local people. We should be grateful for something.

Is it?

I was under the impression it was the same as any global corporation & a local council.

Not quite a simple as that, but big business does tend to get what it wants or it takes its jobs & cash elsewhere......

Come on Bill, you work in planning, don't you? Dig out the files.

Vodafone gave £500k to WBC for a nursery in Shaw as part of the HQ planning consent.

WBC then decided we didn't need it. Vodafone said they didn't really want it back, so WBC gave it to Thatcham to pay for solar panels and decking at the Nature Discovery Centre in Thatcham.
