I assume the staff will be suitably renumerated via a large bonus and the Company will be making a large donation to WBDC for facilities for the town??

Good for them. Might stem further job cuts, which is better for Newbury than giving WBC more money to waste.

I have been told that staff got treated to a free lunch in the canteen today, apart from that they don't think they will get anything else.

I think retired = Made redundant in many cases. Including mine. And I was one of the first 200 employees..
