Newbury Today Forum _ Newbury News _ "...but" What?

Posted by: Don Jun 18 2015, 03:35 PM

Howdy all,

Has anybody read this week’s (18th June) Newbury Weekly News? Turn to page two and you will see a story called “Fined… for parking in a free car park claim”. I read this with enthusiasm as I got caught out in a similar situation. It ended with “Vehicle Control Services Ltd declined to discuss the matter, but” and there it ended. No turn to page such and such... “but”. But what? Was the reporter, and probably the Newbury Weekly News censored? Did the VCS take a junction out quickly and they, the Newbury publishing empire, hastily have to remove what they were going to say? Was this bad journalism? An oversight? Or just an April fool joke after its sell-by date? But, no, I quickly dismissed this as our boys and girls from, that great institution of journalism, are of the highest calibre. So I am left mystified and nonplussed.
Maybe somebody out there might be able to solve this conundrum so that this old fellow can rest in peace at nights, not having to worry about such trivial matters. Trust me, it was an interesting piece, and would have been an even greater piece if the journalist would have been allowed to finish it.

If you are a regular reader you would have noticed quite a few mistakes over time. I doubt very much they will rectify this and put something on next week. I doubt they are bothered or would admit to such mistakes.

Editorial error, but hopefully it might come on line at some point.

Folks, here's the missing words and the full story appears online tomorrow (Saturday).

'Vehicle Control Services Ltd declined to discuss the matter, but asked for any queries to be put in writing.

They have not yet responded to written questions.'

So A member of the admin team make a comment answering a perfectly good question, and someone just HAS to put them down by calling them minions. If I were that individual, I would have deleted your account..

You cannot be "fined" for parking in a private car park.
Only the police or council can fine you.

Plodgate Mitchell is a neighbour and got seriously stuffed for plebbing a PC.
Take care..
He parks his bike on the railings.
He had a basket on the front which passers by would amusingly fill with earth and plant flowers.

Spot on. Worst that can happen is a civil action which are cheap and easy to defend.

Howdy Administrator,

Thank you for that quick response. I must say that the waiting was an anti climatic. I just thought that there might have been a bit more. But you never know unless you ask. I will be interested in reading how it all spans out.

Howdy Spartacus,

Maybe they only answer when it concerns the paper addition. I am not really sure how this message board works, but I am quite impressed with their response. I suppose I could have always emailed them, but it wasn't that urgent or even important. I just thought that there might have been a lot more to the piece. As I said previously, if you don't ask then I suppose they don't think it is important to fill in the blank spots.
