The idea of a ban on HGVs through town is mooted on NewburyToday today.

Lots of protest from Newtown Tories whose residents will see the displaced lorries, but will the Wash Common Tories suggest anything constructive like a link from the Swan through Wash Water to the A34, or are Tories really only good at opposing stuff.

Why build a new road to the A34 when there is a perfectly good one from Newtown to Tot Hill already?

You might do it if there wasn't already a perfectly good one.

I see they are quoting that it shouldn't be used, as part of the reason of the bypass was the road wasn't suitable for the volume of traffic.

However we are talking about completely traffic flows.

Newtown Rd wasn't suitable for the pre by pass lorries - the traffic flow being Winchester Southampton - North, West and East of Newbury and Newbury itself(and vice versa)

Here we are talking of Traffic from Basingstoke and Greenham - North and west of Newbury (and vice versa) - this is surely a much smaller traffic flow and will be far less than pre by-pass levels even with the overall increase in traffic.

However there will be some wealthy people living on that road so I am sure they will have influence!
