So on the face of it one may assume that now it is common knowledge that this speed camera is a fake, motorists will completely ignore it and the residents of Great Shefford will be subjected once more to selfish driving, but, because it will supposedly give carte blanche to those who see fit to break the law, plod with his speed gun will be able to turn up and bag vast numbers of errant drivers, thus swelling local coffers.

"Help cross the road safely"? what from a farmers field next to no pavement? "I expect she will have had some help" For sure! A woman could never have thought of it and made it herself! Who on earth would have cooked her husbands tea?!

Sorry to disappoint but speeding fines - fixed penalty or otherwise - go to straight to HM Treasury - no local benefit whatsoever

Maybe we should adopt the European model then? If a village is short on cash they do a quick "raid" on unsuspecting British tourists who have enough trouble keeping to the right handside of the road let alone looking out for gendarmes with speed cameras.
Personally I believe if you speed you deserve the punishment irrespective of where it ends up.
