QUOTE (Mariejader @ Apr 12 2012, 10:21 PM) Did anyone hear the sonic boom tonight? Might it have been thunder? Funnily enough I heard a boom when I was at Penwood this aft and assumed that was thunder, but maybe it wasn't.

QUOTE it was from one of two RAF Typhoons that had been launched following an emergency call from a helicopter. The helicopter had apparently mistakenly transmitted on a frequency used to warn that it was being hijacked. I'm guessing that the "help" the Typhoons can offer in that particular situation is more or less along the lines of stopping the helicopter doing a 9/11, so it's a good thing the helicopter pilot realised her error in time.

You know, had there actually been an emergency, we have these jet fighters capable of mach 2 but they will never do that because it would upset dorris and her cats. This country could and should be a lot greater than it is but the nanny state always get in the way. People get all shocked "oh my god I thought my house was falling down" well obviously you live a very secluded life.

QUOTE (Nothing Much @ Apr 13 2012, 10:55 PM) Full of such things and a bit about jet-ex from a boys perspective. Winding up rubber bands? I read that as "jet pack" and got excited.

Jet-Ex motors eh? Used to have one of those when I was a kid. Great fun. Don't think they'd pass modern elf 'safety rules!! interesting link.
