Not enough bins? (Mind you, when I had a dog, I was Peter Perfect and used to carry my bags for miles.)

And any bins that there are need to be regularly emptied. The one at Donnington Castle used to be left overflowing for months as I remember - perhaps it's improved now.

No it has not. I have just started walking a pupy on Greenham Common and the past evenings they were full and overflowing onto a pile on the ground. Bowden Wood there are no containers.

When I walk dogs, I carry it for miles too. If the bin is overflowing I will keep onto it until I find another one or return home! Surely if you are going to throw it into the hedge it would be better to not bag it?

I find it offensive when a dog owner passing my house feels that it is acceptable to lean over my wall and drop a bag of turds in my wheelie bin. When I find out who it is, they will find the bag neatly stuffed through their letterbox.

I walk a lot - Newbury to Great Bedwyn is a great romp with the dogs. I can always tell when I am within quarter of a mile of a car park (or road) and I need to put the dogs on the leads 'cos of the amount of dog mess. More than about a quarter mile out and it all disappears again.

The 'let them out of the car walk for 10 mins and don't give a stuff' dog walkers are the worst. The walk into Newbury isn't too bad, but Kintbury tends to be terrible in both directions from the main street.

I find the same on the Ridgeway on the Berk/Oxon/Wilts border and even coastal walks - so it's not just a West Berks problem.

Adding more dog bins I'm sure won't solve the problem - there are just a group of people who don't give a stuff

Agreed. Perhaps an appropriate punishment would be to publish the shhhhitters (as I think we can agree they should be called) names and addresses so that we can all take a dump in their front garden?

Quite right. Cow dung is perfectly fine, as is horses doings: both make excellent compost. I don't know of any gardeners who advocates covering flower borders in dog shhiitte. I don't want to be unreasonable, though. In the spirit of compromise, perhaps we could arrange for the offending excrescence to be returned to the offenders' homes in some appropriate way?

Not such a bad idea! Perhaps could be extended to cover the other and in my book worse offenders - litterers. At least the stuff dogs leave breaks down fairly quickly - tin cans, glass bottles, crisp packets etc. don't. These are also probably more dangerous environmentally. Perhaps we could have a name and shame thread - where are the dirty parts of Newbury and what is the most common 'dropping'?
