QUOTE (badmummajamma @ Feb 12 2013, 10:37 AM) According to the BBC, The chief constable of Thames Valley Police, Sara Thornton, is one of the top 20 most powerful women in the UK! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-21420189Woman's hour? Good grief. It's not like women have phallically-challenged special-needs or anything, they're just people. Time to junk Women's hour and replace it with some quality broadcasting like The Life Scientific or In Our Time, and replace the vapid 15 minute drama with a decent morning play.

QUOTE (Amelie @ Feb 12 2013, 01:16 PM) I have no problem with them listening to their own programs. (providing all the housework etc, has been done).
They can sometimes get a pretty raw deal, bless 'em, so if they want to sit around the wireless listening to patronising guff then I say good luck to them. It'll save their pretty little heads from having to think about anything of real importance. (like parallel parking, map reading, the off-side rule, why on earth Chelsea bought Torres, and Skyrim) Or maybe even posting on a local newspaper forum on such edifying subjects as bollards...? Wondered how long it would be before this topic descended into misogyny - although I think/hope Amelie is being ironic here! As for Melvyn Bragg and his 'In Our Time' - quite the most tedious programme on Radio 4 in my opinion - I much prefer programmes about puppies and kittens.

QUOTE (Blake @ Feb 14 2013, 11:20 AM) There is a good deal of quality broadcasting on Radio 4 viz the Today program, the best source of news by far.
There is some dross too but its still far better than the moronic gossip and garbage by the airheads given airtime on Heart. Couldn't agree more. The Today Programme is good, though rather too sensationalist / aggressive for my liking. A verbal Daily Mail. A personal view from someone who has listened since Jack DeManio presented.
