Yes, the notoriously busy 09:02, reduced to two carriages.

Intimately.

Yesterday they were explaining the virtues of the 09:24 service after explaining the 09:02 is predictably busy!

Tossers.

Maybe they were trying to help??
The 09:24 is a longer 8 coach inter-city type train with plenty of room which maybe people don't realise exists in such a form and may prefer.
Too many people in a tiny country and growing.
Longer trains on the way but I expect they will soon fill!

It is normally a 3 carriage so you argument has no foundation.

A valiant attempt Biker, but we've been 'investing' in the future since privatisation. OK it's coming but a bit of effective and efficient management during those long and still continuing years would certainly have helped. Yes, we have a lot of people in this Country, but Sainsburys, Sky or even National Express, aren't complaining about having too many customers!

I agree OTE northing's perfect and things could be done much better. The same story over the history of railways. The money and effort that has been wasted in the past, mostly under BR, is astounding.
It's funny, I have a book of letters to The Times on railway issues dating back to the beginning of the last century.
On reading it, the complaints are so similar to today's. Little changes!! rolleyes.gif
I suspect that in this ever more crowded country no matter how long the trains they will always be crowded.
If a space is created it seems to be human nature to fill it whether it be railways, roads, planes etc.

However, Sainsbury's just build bigger supermarkets, Sky have no physical restrictions on number of customers, National Express just buy more coaches and crowd the roads even more.
Like I said, the logistics of providing more space on trains is far more complicated and bears no resemblance to those you quoted.

No, the 09:24 is definitely 8!
It was added to the schedule just over a year ago in an attempt to give passengers an alternative to the 09:00 service.
Most seem to not avail themselves of this opportunity and still opt for the 09:00.
Surely not all cannot spare that 20 mins? If it is not used I suspect it will be removed from the schedule.

Did you watch the 3 programmes earlier in the year on the railways in Mumbai?
That's a third world service.
At least you don't have to hang on the outside......................yet!! tongue.gif

I meant the 09:00 is normally 3!!! Indeed, sometimes another one wouldn't go a miss. PS - the customer is always right.

I would like to add that the service is reasonable from an efficiency point of view and am not anti train. Unreliability seems more to do with a Network Rail failure than anything else.

But cutting the coach from 3 to 2 seems just plain cynical at the moment.

Unfortunately the customer is NOT always right!
You're right, many delays are due to NR infrastructure and also other TOC's but the one you refer to was caused by the failure of a GWR turbo.

In the real world of course the customer is not always right, but it is a wise business that makes that a default position; the expression should be taken as a metaphor.

3 carriages today and it is comfortable! smile.gif
