Just had an email about 2 new shops becoming available in Newbury...

1st is Barclays in the market place. Is the time to co-incide with the opening of Parkway?

http://www.shopproperty.co.uk/DisplayShop....40003320547PKLH
The property is targeted for vacant possession in October 2011 and my clients would like to secure a tenant in advance of their vacation. The staff and customers have not yet been made aware of this and all information is provided on a confidential basis. All conversations should be with sole agents BNP Paribas Real Estate.

2nd is Ann Summers, probably in June when their lease comes up for review(not expire).

I guess the staff and customers of Barclays will be made aware now because of your post.
It would be good if anyone can confirm this as it will affect a great many people. I would have thought that if they were cutting back they would have closed the branch in Northbrook street but I guess it's all about lease timings.
The Northbrook branch is going to become very crowded.

Barclays have a large unit in Park Way due for fit out mid-2011, which will be more akin to the HSBC in town. Expect them to vacate Northbrook Street when leasebreak comes up in 2013.

Who would want their Market Place branch? Another curryhouse?

Funny how wrong you can be with a knee jerk reaction.

I'd say knee jerk reactions are bound to be statistically random in accuracy.

That depends on the predisposition of the knee jerkee.

If there's always a jerkee does this mean there must be a jerker too.

A random sample, then yes I'd concur. But I was just refering to the knee jerks on here. Such as assuming that there was some clandestine council meeting of the council when in fact all we had was user error.

You assume a user error. That hasn't been proven. Perhaps the person responsible for IS at the council read the post and quickly corrected matters? In any-case, no harm done.

I'm missing something subtle here. As Barclays will be moving to Parkway and the Northbrook street branch will likely close when the lease expires in 2013.
What is wrong with the information and what is the "knee jerk" reaction?

What were your initial thoughts on reading that Barclays were closing the Market Place Branch?

Newbury will be submerged by a tsunami. tongue.gif In seriousness, I do think the Parkway project is likely to be to the detriment of other commercial 'silos' in town.

Are you suggesting that most readers would jump to the conclusion that Barclays would be leaving town. If so, I didn't. I assume they would be moving elswhere in the town and consolidate the two branches.

You thought they were consolidating to Northbrook Street. Which when you think about it, is rather unlikely.

OK, I understand and I see why you made the comment.

Knee jerks tend to make people question what was meant and usually get the situation explained clearly; must be good to have knee jerks then? wink.gif
