Foolish. It's the local lines and sub-stations that are broken. If we had local power creation, the impact of the loss of larger carrier lines can be reduced or negated.

Most feather and run in high winds but even a failed turbine causes little damage and little impact to the power network. A failure of your beloved Nuclear in storms has far greater problems - Hinkley Point was cut off this week as roads flooded around it - still with the prevailing wind coming from due south it would only wipe out Wales, Northern England and Scotland - NIMBY.

Actually, quite wrong! There are several places on the continent which are 'grid free' and manage very comfortably indeed without a mains connection. This inevitably means investing in new home technology and various other bits and pieces. However, given that we replace things over a period anyway, its still practical. Add to that advances in storage and other energy transfer technologies where the costs are beginning tio make them very practical, this is all more than possible. All without any need for hair shirts and even an increase in home comfort whatever the weather. Its not just about saving the planet, its actually about saving money.

So, lets go on as we are bolstering utility business profits - why pay less, you know it makes sense!

Thanks for the concern Adrian, yes I'm OK and surprisingly seem to have endured the ordeal surviving relatively unscathed. I have managed to not burn anything down with the candles but..........00000eeerrr! I haven't checked on my neighbours.
I'll go and knock them up now!

There's nowt wrong wit magic moonbeams, sooner or later but probably not in our lifetime we will have accepted that and will be benefiting from cheap reliable power, all except for the hair shirt wearers who will still be advocating the donkey and treadmill approach to the problem.

This idea that you need constant power to survive some people have is perplexing.
It's easy to go whole months without a hookup, laptops and all with little engineering.

And paddling 50meters in half foot deep water in the dark to reach the loo late at night makes you glad to be alive
