I saw the following doing the rounds on facebook this afternoon, sadly I am not ashamed to say that it made me chuckle (if only a little)...

"The yanks are blaming the pro Russian separatists in eastern Ukraine for the shooting down of that plane. The Russians are blaming the pro western factions. After reading all the available facts & intelligence David Cameron and Nick Clegg are blaming the last Labour Government."

Obnoxious possiby, VEXATIOUS definitely not.

*i've asked admin to delete this thread as I can't agree that the death of several hundred people in a war crime is an appropriate subject for snide humour*

Did make me smile.
But maybe it is a bit soon.
It's a horrible act that happened. Although doesn't mean we shouldn't be able to have a giggle and make light of the situation.

Humour is a coping mechanism, but I don't think it is 'making light' of the situation......

You're having a giggle at 298 people dying?

There is a difference between sharing the joke with friends who may share your sense of humour and posting it on a website.

Poor taste posting it here, and poor of NWN for leaving it on the site

The OP had absolutely no laugh at the victims. As stated, the chuckle was aimed at the political crud that surrounds it.

So stop getting on your high and mighty moral high ground and read before you type!

It probably wouldn't sound so funny to you if your children were on the plane.

Back to the OP, the 'joke' was hardly a side splitter and there was nothing in the content that was in particularly poor taste or even mildly offensive enough to warrant action by the site moderator (which is handy as this site doesn't seem to have any moderators in control anyway...)

Exactly what? Start going on about reading before posting, I'd suggest some might think before posting. No-one was getting on a moral high horse. People just objected to what many people would have thought of as an unfunny comment.

'It probably wouldn't sound so funny to you if your children were on the plane.'

Correct, but as MM stated, they weren't though were they?. 'Exactly'!
And if they were, do you think I'd be looking at a little forum such as this one?

And yes, there is a moral high ground attitude on this thread.

This is a public forum and to that end people should be respectful of that.

So it is fair game to be the subject of a joke because in your eyes, it has nothing to do with you? That is crass. This has nothing to do with moral high ground, just common decency.

In my view the 'joke' is inappropriate and deserves to be criticised accordingly, but I stop short of censorship. I'd leave it as an epitaph to the ignorant.

No Moral high ground.

It is the type of joke my friends would sometimes email to me. sometimes I will find the joke amusing (even if someone has suffered) sometimes not. However many don't share my sense of humour so I wouldn't expect to see it on a site like this!

To use the PM function here to forward the joke to those you know won't be offended would be acceptable.

I found the "joke" insensitive and not something I'd expext on a public forum. I felt obliged to report it to Admin and I don't like to skulk so felt obliged to post that fact as we all at times say inappropriate thing which on reflection we might want to retract. I'm done with this thread now.

I know Simon Kirby that you are done with the thread.

I go with the upper lip. I like the humour that gives us a relief to carry on.
A couple of years ago I used to fly to Libya for summer hols. Great place really.Sandy beaches and Roman ruins.
There was a truckstop joint called Rome. I flew often but was cared for by "Universal Aunts". We had to change trains .

Alitalia Caravelle took me to Benghazi. And the Comet flew on..into the sea.
A neighbour spoke of the grief his family still felt at the loss of a child such as I on that plane.
