Spoke with someone today who has been to a few of the events. He was very impressed with the Park and the set up.

Apparently, there is no right of re-entry and upon leaving early your ticket is scanned and the seat is made available again to buy for £5 to people outside. So it is worth going and trying your luck maybe (if you were not lucky enough to get a ticket via the website).

I watched the opening ceremony on TV - impressive - the guy who was in charge of the lighting effects certainly deserves a medal.

Pleased those badminton players were disqualified - what an insult to other competitors and those who had paid good money to come and watch! I can understand the pressure to win, but that was a sad day for sport. I suppose the authorities are very sensitive to games being "thrown" not least because of the huge betting scams that have taken place.

A ruling from a court should be crystal clear and not open to interpretation. There was an article in The Times this week commenting on the inexperience and poor quality of some of the judges that sit in this court.

I think UKIP have had a good week!

It would be three months and one day if the clock started at midnight on the 16th, but it didn't, the ECHR decision was made some time in the day on the 17th. Say for the sake of argument it was made at 1600 on the 17th. To the nearest minute that puts three months from that point as 1600 on the 17th April (which is already past the HO deadline) and because the time limit was expressed in months not minutes he actually has up to 2359 on the 17th April to lodge his appeal.

The court sits 24 hours a day? To which office or court do you lodge an appeal at 11pm at night?

My 12 month car insurance runs from 07 June 2011 to 06 June 2012. If I had an accident on 07 June 2012, I would not be covered by that policy.

Three months from the 17th January is the 17th April and not the 16th...

Disagree, that could be interpreted as 3 months and 1 day.

Generally, this has demonstrated one of the criticisms of the court in that its judges are inexperienced. The confusion over the date should never have arisen.

Three months from the 17th of January is when exactly? That's right, it's the 17th of April.

Some may disagree and argue that three calender months from 17 January expire 23:59, 16 April.

In any event, you want this guy to stay here?

Spot on.

That is not siraluns boardroom. It's a set specially built in the Black Islands studio in Park Royal. (that's why there's no windows).

That's not his P.A. (it's an actress / production assistant)

All candidates are filmed leaving the Viglen offices in St Albans in one shoot.. These are then inserted into the progamme as each one gets fired. That's why sometimes they're not wearing the same clothes they were wearing when they got fired.
In the first couple of series they were filmed leaving the Amstrad 'factory' in Brentwood, but as A.M.S. no longer owns that they went to his Viglen office exterior to film.

Haven't seen much of the new series but the Cafe the losers are sent to was the Bridge Street Cafe in Acton. It probably still is.

Very little in the production of the programme is 'real'. Candidates are eventually chosen for their ability to engender a 'reaction' from the audience. Comination of: Looks, Delusion, and Arrogance. The business idea is WAAAAY down the list. (if it goes tits-up, he'll just write it off against tax.)

Last years winner invented the 's' shaped nail file for 'siralun'. And how we were all waiting for that. Right?

The one from the year before is still suing AMS for wrongful dismissal.

Before that, the winner got herself pregnant after working for only for a few weeks (by the Development Manager) (No jokes please) and never returned to work.

Anyone not chosen to appear on the programme should breathe a sigh of relief.

Yes, I agree.

The boardroom set is designed to look as if they are in "The Gherkin" - note the design of the set walls.

The other thing to consider is that with such a low number of "contestants" it is statisically feasible that a white male could "win" for several series in a row - and the BBC would not allow that.

So, good entertainment, but that's all that it is.

Although I have another job I work at Dominos as well for a bit of extra cash.

As a delivery driver I really appreciate tips because at Dominos you don't get free food or drink, or even ANY discount. So on a 12 hour shift (I normally do 10-15 hour shifts at present. 6 days a week) I have to go up to McDonalds and buy my food.

How do you handle both jobs? When do you sleep?

An area of "outstanding natural beauty"?

Give over. It's berkshire.

Leave the car at home tomorrow, and take a walk or a cycle along the canal path through Marsh Benham, Kintbury and to Hungerford. There is beauty to behold.

It depends, but probably not. Aquifers are really big, like many tens of miles across, but the water in them is not terribly mobile, so drawing down the water table in one location doesn't greatly influence the water table in other locations (though it depends on what kind of ground it is) unless you're creating a really big gradient by pumping out millions of gallons. Mostly the ground water is just moving down the water table gradient until it emerges in a stream, and that journey can take many years (I know rivers rise when it rains, but that actual water might have fallen ten years ago and was effectively squeezed out of the aquifer by the weight of the rain joining the queue in the uplands) so to some degree if you don't use the ground water it isn't saved for someone else to use, it just flows out to sea.

Yes. In addition to bore holes, many big estates also treat their own sewage. Along with the rain that falls on the land, the ground gets replenished following local human use.

The general problem we have with water in UK is concentration of population and housing in certain areas, such as the drier south east.

It does raise the question why they tuned it off if they were not doing anything wrong?

I should imagine the Benyon household turned it off for the same reason they didn't turn it on in the first place.

It would seem it wasn't about wasting water as such, more the potentially illegal use of it.

But as the estate has its own borehole there was no illegal use. And Thames Water have confirmed this.

I wonder if us 'mere mortals' would be treated the same if one of our 'friends' or neighbours decided to play a 'prank' on us and turn the tap on of a connected hose pipe? I suggest then that all hose pipes should be packet out of harms way; they are not necessary at the moment.

Exactly. The story could not have been about wasting water, for the "journalist" (by his own admission) stood by and watched the hose run for two hours. Did he not think to turn off the tap?

Has Richard Benyon MP & the Minister for Water had a 'Clinton! moment when he stated "Neither I, nor my family, nor anyone who works for me turned that hose on”?

I think the "Clinton moment" may soon be for the journalist. An anti-Tory showbiz hack who decided to call in on a bank holiday to discuss the hosepipe ban?

Maybe Ladbrokes are conducting their own investigation into betting patterns on this.

Very pleased with this firm, who do bodywork & upholstery.

Visit This Link

He was very fastidious in matching leather colour damage caused by doggie,
nearly invisible unless you know where to look.

I'd imagine similar care taken when matching paint.

Do you mean Refresh Autos in Tilehurst?

I paid about £120 to repair a gash in my rear bumper, caused by another car scraping it when parked. I think it was Chips Away I used. The repair has lasted well and a good match on the paint, although the finish is a little flat.

On the top of the bumper I had doggie-claw scratches caused by my beast scrabbling in and out. I bought a bumper protector which hid them well - about £40 on eBay.

My serious point is that (as the Direct Debit is often cancelled) the charity gets nothing, or at very least a very small proportion of the donors payments.

I think the direct debit has to be in place for quite some time for the charity to recover what thay have to pay to the firm that employs the chuggers.

Puts me in mind of the "charity clothing bags", where x% of post tax profits go to the charity.

Some people had been placing bets at Ladbrokes that an MP would be caught flouting the hosepipe ban. It was 5/1 that an MP (or a member of their staff) would be caught. Spooky. blink.gif

Poor Mr Benyon - it seems he has been 'got at' by journos...
According to The Telegraph today a journo and photographer found a hose running at his property....
He says they turned it on

It is stated he has called in Plod to investigate.

Why I asked about the length of a piece of hosepipe to fill a watering can is:- some time
during the last hose pipe ban someone was caught with the hosepipe in the watering can
and the guy was just letting it run out the spout to water his plants. If I remember right
he won the day in court. All he did was save time going back and forth to the hosepipe to
fill the can which was allowed then and is now.

I think this may have been a story about the gardener at No 10 Downing Street? I believe there is now a supplement to the Act that defines "using a hosepipe" to include using a hosepipe as any part of a watering activity. sad.gif
