Er... am I getting this right? They will lend professional couples, who cannot save £1.5k, money to move into private homes?

Not being funny, but two people who cannot save £1.5k while living at their parent house are going to really struggle in the 'real world' with real world rents!!!

Surely in this time of few affordable homes to live in, putting more 'buyers' in the rented market will just put even more pressure on the housing market, won't it?

"The Lib Dems believe up to two million people could benefit."

It's a terrible policy - and not an idea that any Liberal should entertain. Giving consumers public money doesn't make it any more affordable to rent, the market will simply adjust, rents will increase, and the only winner is the property owner - pure Adam Smith. To make homes more affordable the state needs to end all the funny-money schemes, change planning law so that planning permission is vastly easier to get, and strip away all the other umpteen fees, taxes and charges that are parasitic on the house buyer so that property costs more closely reflect the cost of the bricks and mortar and not the profit that the speculators and spivs make on the sale.

Hear, hear, although it isn't 'giving' the money; it's a loan. To me it is just a nonsense policy.
