Top Gear hasn't ended, the BBC could continue it with any number of other people. To be fair the format as it is was getting a bit boring. Let's have a race spanning thousands of miles and several days and all still finish within minutes of each other, that's believable! Fair enough I understand Clarkson wrote most of it, but it wouldn't be hard to emulate it and make it better.

It might be for you, but TG was/is still very popular.

This format is very good for a motoring programme and I agree it would be valuable and watchable to many.
However this is not what Top Gear evolved into.
Top gear is/was an entertainment show with comedy and escapism at it's core.
Yes it is/was a motoring show but based purely on entertainment and not on education or information.
As for tips on safe driving, the message given by Top Gear could not be further from this if they tried, with the emphasis being on fast dangerous driving style and the type of car only available to rich men who lack something in other departments!! wink.gif
Top Gear is/was great fun and entertainment and I am sorry to see it go, but the sort of programme you describe User would need to be in addition to and not replace it.

On custom laid tracks, not the public road system. wink.gif

I didn't say it wasn't, I said that the current format was getting boring. Now could be a good opportunity for the makers to look at it.

I'll re-phrase it: because some people like yourself found it boring doesn't mean it was and viewing figures suggest it wasn't; however, as Clarkson is now not a part of the team, a re-boot is a certainty.

Yes, but come on, you must agree that it encouraged a certain type of gentleman to drive in a, shall we say, "inappropriate" manner?

What were the viewing figures for 2013 vs 2014 vs 2015? Was there an increase?

To be fair I can't find the figures, but I can find articles claiming they are increasing year on year. However that doesn't mean the show is getting better, that could be down to all sorts of reasons. Anyway, it is my opinion that the show hasn't changed in any way for a long time, the storylines are all very similar every week and that a change isn't a bad thing. I stopped watching a while ago though.

I'm an occasional watcher - it is usually entertaining in parts. Driving super cars around a track doesn't interest me in the slightest and the 'star in a reasonably priced car' section would be far better if the chat show element was longer and they didn't bother to show the lap. I watch for the humour, not the cars.

Perhaps Clarkson's next incarnation will be as an ITV chat show host.

I think the secret is out. It seems Sky are in advanced negotiating with 'the team' for a new show...based on same format. Anyone recall Clarkson crowing at his last contract renewal that once his salary had been paid; there would be very little for the production.

Oh what a surprise!

That does seem to fit. Jeremy Clarkson is a member of the Chipping Norton set after all. It must be interactive TV for the masses - now we can all say we've been taken for a ride by Top Gear.

There was roughly a 450,000,000/1 chance of this being a coincidence, based on the combination of possible numbers and letters.

Better odds than winning Euromillions and people do that quite often...
