Newbury Today Forum _ Newbury News _ Totally shocking and outrageous.

I am immensely saddened and shocked to read that a police officer lost his life last night whilst in pursuit of his duties, I think it's a measure of society that this can happen. My thoughts and condolences go out to his family and brother officers. 😔

Let's hope life means life in these circumstances and that joint enterprise laws mean they are all banged up indefinitely.

Appalling incident. sad.gif

Said on the news tonight that police are interviewing people living in a group of caravans.
That'll no doubt the traveller's camp about 2 miles away at Paices Hill; a location, police are regularly in attendance at.

You often see on police documentaries where they are pursuing a vehicle
and it turns into traveller encampment; the driver soon disappears into a hostile crowd.

Fortunately there was another officer present, so hopefully he can contribute vital evidence,
along with police car's cameras.

For the murder of Police + Prison officers we should reintroduce Hanging.

Heard the same earlier in the town. Until an example is made (I'm not a death penalty advocate) then nothing will change. Hard labour. And I mean breaking rocks in chains. Sod the do gooders. Make them suffer... for a long time.

Johnson has intimated that a "get tough" policy on crime is on the cards so his acid test as leader may well be in this field as opposed to the european farce that occupies the press. Undoubtedly the vehicle involved has been "spirited" away so all the accused need to do is sit in the interview room answering "no comment" to every question while the clock ticks down. One can only hope there is sufficient forensic evidence to bring them to trial though I doubt very few would bat an eyelid at the idea of "lex talionis" in a disused quarry.

They will all go no comment apart from pinning it on the 13 year old. He'll get a spell in youth custodial and all the rest will walk away to rob and murder elsewhere... when he gets out he will get looked after.

Maybe a need for strong justice. I remember once when I moved a field shelter and we discovered a rats nest underneath it. They were politely requested to mind their P's and Q's, or was that someone else. If they walk they will be invulnerable. You cannot simply kill a copper and get away with it. Apparent;y the van has disappeared, wonder how?

I think what makes it worse is that he looks like a guy I would happily buy a pint.

Mine would be one guilty, all guilty.

In the U.S. the death penalty is decided state by state.

Sadly New York rescinded it in 2007.

I can't see paying for a prisoner unless they were in a deep, dark hole, with only bread and water twice a day.

Cruel, harsh, inhuman?

Tell that to the widow of the young police officer.
