This was done to save money on road closure. Some people may have considered it as thoughtless, and others think spending the money to close the roads thoughtless, also.

Umm - just glad those who gave their lives didn't have that attitude. Must admit, I didn't find it thoughtless - simply rude and disrespectful. Saving money on rememberance sunday - crass to say the least!

Hungerford's lights are pretty much the work of one town councillor who spends weeks of his own time checking the bulbs and supervising the erection (erhum!). They are funded by Hungerford Town Council and local businesses. And yep, they are certainly the best around for many miles. Now if Newbury had just one or two dedicated councillors, and support from businesses then perhaps they could have something more worthwhile also.
Why does it have to be an councillor that does this, why not anyone who lives in the town, or anyone who doesn't and has some connection with it for that matter?

It was simply because the road closure was already in place on Rememerance Sunday which cost about £2k (the time I am speaking of isapprox four/five years ago now). Be it disrepectful or not, I'm just letting you know why it was done then.

Thanks, appreciate the facts. Just very glad someone in authority has now learned a lesson.

You make it sound like I care about whether I'm a hypocrite or not. I don't, but you dunnarf come out with some right old ill-timed drivel.

Thank you, but I must give credit where credit is due. Every bit of drivel I learnt I learnt it from the best: i.e. you. Before I came into contact with you I was normal... so thanks for rescuing you.

Without it you would have nothing to reply to; at least I am keeping you occupied. Don't thank me; I do it because I like you.

I thought it was you who couldn’t help yourself, you obviously love replying to me (no matter how nonsensical it is).

With all this 'lively forum chatter/friendly banter' isn't it about time we heard from our old mate Vbird again?

Oh look.... Vbird has posted on the 'Alopecia UK Online Forum'
Baldies United
