Why is it that some selfish drivers ignore flashing school warning signs and continue to drive far to fast past areas where small children are being taken into school?

Are they so important that the safety of these kids isn't?

They think they are yes.

Selfish and arrogant isn't it?

There should be a mandatory 20mph MAX speed limit past schools especially when the light are flashing.
Perhaps even less?

I understand where you are coming from I live next to a school and some drivers have not got a clue at what the road signs mean. Some think that the zig zag lines are for parking on, and peoples drive ways are for parking across!! As for driving too fast some people are nightmares .

Yes, it's the"me first, i'm more imprtant than you" selfish attitude that we are seeing more and more.
What a pity that we are losing respect and consideration for each other.

..and then the same drivers complain about other cars speeding outside their house/through their village.

In many (perhaps all) states in the USA it's mandatory 20mph through active school zones, and double penalties if you don't.

From my observations it's usually the parents that are going to / from the schools that are a lot of the problem in the first place. angry.gif

Sorry Bill1 in my experience it is true. St Nicholas School, Link Road has cars double parked, parked on drives, blocking drives, on corners, zigzags and even the grass triangle in the middle of the road. Must admit the parents do not speed past the school.

If they're going to / from the school how would they be driving fast past it?

People tend not to park on the school grounds! It is therefore possible to drive past the school when taking 'one's little warrior' to school.

From what I've seen they try to park as close as possible.

Possibly, but the point remains.

Not really, if they're parking as close as possible then how can they be speeding past the school?

They may drive carefully up to the school while they have their little angels in the back.... but once they've dumped them off, they gun it away from school and off to their work... without too much concern about the fact that they may be speeding past OTHER parents who may be WALKING their little angels to school....

Stop being a silly girl tongue.gif , parking as close as possible, doesn't guarantee that you are able to park close (to the school).

What gets me is that some people who drive to school only live a 5-10 minute walk away!!

Do you know that for a fact? If they rigorously enforced catchment areas we wouldn't have anything like the problems we have today.

Yes I do because I live 5-10 minutes away from 2 school and have seen my neighbours drive on many occasions.

We do all need to drop off/pick up in cars on occasions say for instance if you have an appointment to get to straight after school, but I have seen them drive to school as I have set off walking, then return home in their cars as I have returned home (no time saved at all by driving!).
