QUOTE (Torchy @ Feb 4 2010, 11:07 PM) why can't our local plods get off their bottoms and book a few of these dangerous scumbags? Not as easy to catch & fine as those picked out for speeding and parking offences. I.E. Not as profitable!

Every day I see people jumping the lights blatantly. I approach from the Sainsburys roundabout and always see cars jumping the lights to my right a the RobinHood QUOTE (Biker1 @ Feb 5 2010, 08:31 AM) Not as easy to catch & fine as those picked out for speeding and parking offences. Why is it not as easy? Plenty of places have installed cameras at lights which catch the motorists who jump lights.

QUOTE (x2lls @ Feb 5 2010, 03:54 PM) I once saw a mother with a double buggy have to go into the road to pass. It appears they are more concerned with upsetting other drivers rather than pedestrians. I used to have this problem when I drove a double buggy in Thatcham years ago. I used to try really hard to get past the cars on the pavement. Sometimes the cars got a bit scratched. Shame.

QUOTE (Biker1 @ Feb 5 2010, 08:31 AM) Not as easy to catch & fine as those picked out for speeding and parking offences. Police don't do parking offences anymore...... Even when they were ABLE to do them a few years ago, they seldom lowered themselves to the underclass that is 'traffic warden'.... FAR easier catching people not wearing seatbelts.... Regular as clockwork, towards the latter part of every month, you'll find the coppers and their 'spotter' on the A4 just before the B&Q roundabout pulling vehicles in for a talking to and a fine for seatbelts and mobile phone use. Easy pickings and it's always the coppers who haven't met their monthly target figures for 'pulls' who get to join the team isssuing tickets Speeding enforcement isn't such an easy number to get your figures up as you might think. Mostly because police officers have to wear bright yellow jackets when they do this work so are easily seen and other drivers passing the other way flash warnings to approaching drivers and get them to slow down. The days of bobbies jumping out from a hedge and holding his hand out to pull drivers in for speeding are long gone... (more likely to get run over these days if they tried that...)

QUOTE (JeffG @ Feb 5 2010, 11:22 AM) So, the police get to keep the money from fines they impose, do they? No they don't, a little goes back into road safety partnerships, the rest goes to the government. As for speeding being more profitable, Jumping a red and speeding carry the same penalty. And to answer another regularly asked question, No coppers do not get paid commision for issuing tickets.

QUOTE (Strafin @ Feb 5 2010, 10:54 PM) Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't it count towards their solved crime targets though? No, only the most serious of traffic offences are recorded as crimes. Traffic offences are not classified as crimes.

QUOTE (Biker1 @ Feb 6 2010, 10:02 AM) More accidents, injuries and deaths are caused by general bad driving or poorly maintained vehicles than speeding Can you state your source on that one, please?

QUOTE (Biker1 @ Feb 6 2010, 10:14 AM) Ah the Oracle that is the Daily Mail!!! The other offences are enforced, they are just not reported like speed enforcement, most people are also surprised when they do get a ticket for it. They have no idea that it's 3 points and £60 for a defective tyre! That's per tyre!!!! Four illegal tyres and your disqualified!!!! Interstingly enough I was once told that other than ASB speeding is the mostly highly complained about neighbourhood issue at Neighbourhood action group meetings. Hence the location of most of the local speed enforcement.
