Newbury Today Forum _ Random Rants _ Bloody spectacle of Pamplona

Posted by: lordtup Jul 11 2009, 03:53 PM

Am I alone in rejoicing just a little at the events in a Basque town that has resulted in a little retribution being handed out to the barbaric louts that view the spectacle of bovine slaughter as a some kind of art form. How a civilized society can tolerate something that has it's base in the gladiatorial arenas of ancient Rome is totally beyond me.
One can only assume that their God whoever he is,is a little less compassionate to His creations that one would expect.

Bulls 1 people 0 Hooray !!

I would imagine there's a family somewhere that doesn't share your jubilation at the moment.

Well no one forced them to do it,the bull doesn't have that option

I know, but it makes it no easier at the moment for the family who are bereaved, so excuse me if I don't jump up and down with joy.

I'm not a supporter of field sports either. To me the whole thing is a tragedy and not a football match to see who wins.

You are one sick man. You never did anything when you were young then that was a bit on the wild side? If you have kids and they ever take one hit of Ecstasy or Coke then I hope they die because they deserve 'It'. Shame on you.

GoodBoy. In Pamplona they have a Bull run and thousands of people from all over the World run with the Bulls. It is not for the faint hearted and some see it as a rite of passage. One unfortunate young Spanish lad got gored by a bull and had his jugular and aorta hit by a bulls horn. He died.

This chap is celebrating his death. Now you see my point?

I do now yes, too many technical words used... i was about to explode. Now i remember hearing about this and i do feel some slight emotion but the tradition just goes over the top and its like their just wanting to kill them selves... yeah it must be a great rush and i would love to try it some time but, their just asking for it and it looks like he got it.

And having seen pictures of the bull, looking confused, frightened and being beaten with sticks, it seems more like a defence response than anything else

Well, if you think it's a fun thing to do, I'm sure some local farmer would shut you in a field with a bull if you asked nicely. You could then poke it with a stick to make it angry.

Maybe so but by the same token you could say that if you broke the speed limit then you deserve to crash and burn. We have no right to tell other people from other nations how to behave. Do gooding liberals got this country into mess it is in now.

Anyone who gets pleasure from abusing an animal for fun, no matter what country they are from, deserves everything they get.

I agree. At least it shows you they are savages.

Presumably the respective families deserve the bereavement also.

I don't think you can really say 'they.' People from a number of different nationalities (including Britain) take part in it.

"They" as in whoever watches it. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

Yes of course I am. Nothing like a good bull fight to the get the blood going. blink.gif
My point is that each Country has Cultural differences (some are even regional).
The elimination of these 'differences' will make our Culture devoid of passion and fire and will leave a bland European 'Nanny' Superstate.
Some people may want to live in a place like that. Personally I don't.

Didn't Richard Hammond do it a few years back and it was shown on top gear?

Yes. If they encouraged it or brought the victim up to disrespect others around them.

Lack of care for other living things often leads to the same feelings for fellow humans.

There's a few ifs in there, eh?

What we appear to have here is a cultural issue and until we as a country can show impeccable respect for animals, I don't think we can speak from a particularly high moral standpoint. I don't agree with the way Spain treat bulls, I think it should be banned, but knowing the grief that some people might be feeling right now that might be innocent of all this, I think it quite inhuman to jubilate over such a tragedy.

This death will not affect the running of the bulls and therefore the welfare of these beasts, one bit.

I agree with your point - I am in no way jubilating over someone else's loss. It is very sad when a human life is lost in this way as it could have been avoided.

I just want to condemn the abuse of animals - can anyone on the these pages justify the abuse of animals for fun?

It is sad but true that some people in our "society" now think it's OK to abuse fellow humans - sometimes for fun!!! sad.gif
Take the school pet rabbit story a few months ago - would these same people think it OK to do the same to a human?
I tend to think that that is the way they are heading.

Yes, I have heard the correlation between cruelty to animals in young and their propensity to violence later in life. When I hear the stories like the one you mention, it make me sick to thin people can do that.

I think in general we treat animals shabbily, but sadly I am not a vegetarian so I do feel rather hypocritical on these matters.
