They are selling a sat nav that gives directions with all left turns and no duel carriageways. Is is aimed at older people. Thought it was a joke at first, but it is true.

I saw ages ago on that stupid Quentin Wilson show some woman would only turn left.

Roundabouts must have been fun.

Really?

Well, as it's true, give us a link to where it's being sold then....

Yes really. Unsure which paper it was as read it in the waiting room. If you are a bit nervous of turning right or duel carriageways I will go back and see if I can find more info for you.

If you aren't confident with turning right or using dual carriageways you shouldn't be allowed on the road.
There are bus tokens for people like that.

You see, I think you've gone and got all confused.

Sat Nav

That link goes to a newspaper site which says 'they're working on the idea' and 'it's being developed'

Date April 23rd 2012. If it was only 'being developed' then and now, according to you, it's being marketed and sold, that's a pretty quick turnaround.

Read more carefully next time.

Or listen to Radio 4 Blythe on the radio. where 'a year or two' is the given time frame.

Looking forward to your link.

West Berkshire Council took away 'Bus Tokens' last year, so I don't see how that suggestion would help someone locally.

Well I am sorry I didn't totally recall the complete article verbatim while waiting for the doctor to probe me. Should be put in the stocks for a week. Bus tokens/bus passes, why be so pedantic about everything?

Well why start an entire thread about something you misunderstood? How long would it have taken you to have "Google'd" the facts?

Looking through stories about sat navs I came across this.
A certain young fellows name jumped into my head straight away.
No tips that night.

A student who was working part time as a takeaway driver to earn some extra money was on his way to deliver an order to an area he didn’t know, and was told by his Sat Nav to ‘turn left’ onto the railway track, only to get caught between a cattle grid and the track. After trying to move the car with his passenger’s aid, the driver admitted defeat and the police were alerted. Trains in the area were stopped for over an hour whilst the car was removed from the tracks. The food went cold and had to be thrown away

I hope the food didn't find the experience too traumatic. Will my lawyers need to be in touch?

Turning right. (And Jaycakes' overtaking history), has in the past had catastrophic results.

A while ago in a galaxy far far a way.(Sort of a market town) but a lot smaller than Newbury.
I was planning to turn right off a bypass and follow the old road, which crosses a river,
there are ducks and swans by the side of the road.

Waiting to turn right followed by a sharp left.
There was a slow moving car followed by about a mile of traffic. Stuff was gathering behind me.
So I went for it. I was 50 yards down the 2nd road when I heard a furious blast of a horn.

Whether the head of the queue panicked and braked, and got hooted,
or it took the driver that long to react I'll never know.
The driver was doing about 50 on a 60mph road approaching a 40 mph zone. Fair enough.
I knew I had enough 'go' to be well out of the way.

For older drivers, Don't Panic.

No there aren't. They have been withdrawn, and the current ones expire on the 30th April. (Not that I have any.)

Do people on here think that those who are afraid to, or lack confidence to, turn right should actually be driving?

Well I do, Biker1, admit to going round an unknown roundabout a few times to find
the road to a tiny village, especially when there are so many names on the destination boards.

OK the big names are there ,but Chipping Magna or Parva is always at the bottom of the pole.
And I won't have a satnav.... I would rather spend a weekend going round. That's just me.

Turning right should be fairly straightforward, so many roads now have safe areas to wait.
Still it is certainly not an elderly problem. Maybe frustration when a road has nose to tail traffic.

I think it is inevitable that older people will need to continue driving. Not all, but many older people have a tremor, arthriitis and coordination starts to slow down. Public transport is fairly non-existant and as we will have to continue to work until our 70's many more older people will be on the roads.

As to 'should they be driving', probably not, will they have to keep driving, the answer is yes.

Having watched TV, I think that doughnuts are the preferred snack for sleeping policemen.
