Who?

The people responsible for providing us with a rail ‘service’, or not as the case may be.

The wonders of electrification:

Due to damage to the overhead electric wires between London Paddington and Slough all lines are blocked.
Impact:
Train services running to and from these stations may be cancelled or delayed by up to 120 minutes. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

What a complete utter shower!

So Catholic priests are told by their hierarchy/bible/teachings to rape little boys? Sorry, but that just plain stupid and I must assume you are stupid to make such a claim.

The fact that the church sought to cover up these deeds, implicates them in the sorry affair.

I disagree. The last time I checked human beings had both incisors and molars which made us.... Omnivores. This means we are meant to eat both veg and meat. If we do have to eat meat then the animal we are eating should be given a good a life as possible and then dispatched in the quickest and most pain free way. Until such time as meat can be produced from none sentient beings (that is not far away) then this is a necessary evil. When meat is produced from none sentient beings then I guess our future selves wil look upon us as murdering evil bstds. But then looking back is easy to criticise.

Your argument insinuates intelligent design; although a not very good one: our teeth and stomachs are poorly designed for eating meat, we have to use knives and cook meat. That doesn’t shout ‘meant to eat meat’ to me.

However, that wasn’t my point.

That animal would not even have been born had it not been for the meat requirement. ALL life dies eventually, the only difference being we choose when that end comes for some. The whole point being that we respect that position and treat the animal with compassion before being harvested which should be quick and painless.
The last two requirements are not present in jewish and muslim abattoirs and this has absolutely nothing to do with racial prejudice.

For me your argument is the equivalent of believing Harold Shipman is a better bloke than Michael Ryan.

That does not bode well for UK plc then. There is an element, (and quite a large one), that considers it ok to trample over all and sundry so a defenceless animal has no chance. The pity is that the vast majority support a more compassionate approach to how food arrives on our plate but they do not speak as a single voice because whenever the matter gains momentum it hits the brick wall of religious bigotry.

There’s nothing humane killing a healthy creature that doesn’t want to die.

One thing that really annoys me is when a train is rammed full and some eejits think its OK to take a seat up with a laptop bag or other luggage. Downright rude.

One on the train today - people standing and they are completely oblivious. I gues i could ask if they bought 2 tickets?😂

I’ll mostly be standing now in any-case! tongue.gif

For those of you who complain about delays etc. and especially those who incur and prevaricate about delays at Thatcham Crossing, there is an open day on October 10th at Colthrop Crossing Signal Box with guided tours.
It may help some of you understand the reason for some delays and why the crossing needs to be down for so long sometimes.
Unfortunately it is on a working day so some may not be able to make it.
May sound a bit boring but I can assure you it is more interesting than it sounds!
P.S. For those who may not know Colthrop Signal Box controls Thatcham Level Crossing, (and Midgham!).

Is it to allow for the train to stop in an emergency in the worst case scenario regardless of the stopping distance and time of any particular train?

I agree that the lack of drivers and delays are inconvenient to say the least but you do have to point out where improvements are being made.

I’m not sure how making the seat exclusive is an improvement.

Sounds like an eminently sensible young lady. She only needed to add that all those that voted out should be offered either a re-training program or neutering so as to not pass on the thick gene.

Beware the troll! tongue.gif

Happened to engage in a conversation with a young lady earlier today as we awaited our respective prescriptions at the chemist. Transpired that she had just completed a degree in political studies, (oh yes), and without prompting embarked on a vitriolic tirade against D.Trump esq. In the same breath she likened those who voted for him as "muppets" similar to those who supported brexit.
So there you have it, if you voted to leave the EU then you are akin to a rabid republican and should be not allowed near sharp instruments or children. So much for a balanced education as obviously she was otherwise engaged when the bit about democracy was discussed.

I voted out so that includes me.

I’m not even 6 feet tall yet the shape of the back rest is wrong for me and it forces me to bow my back, it is horrendous. I doubt I could sit in one from Newbury to London.

Can sympathise with your predicament. The trouble is electrification won't cure all the problems that cause the delays so it's not going to get any better. Might be worth looking at other transport. My partner still finds her car much better. Even when delayed at least you are in a comfortable environment.

The problem for me may soon be fixing itself.

However, the seats are seriously uncomfortable for me; there’s no way I could endure long distance in one.

As a matter of interest what constitutes a "foreigner"? Yes the royal family is of German descent but so are those who have lived here for a thousand years. The "Britons" were a mix of Celts and Romans and pretty much exterminated from England, (at least), by the Saxons etc who decided that this was a half decent place to live. They in turn were diluted by Danish blood before the arrival of the Normans who themselves had worked their way down from the North.
So having established that we are all "immigrants, or children of, maybe its about time we all packed our bags and followed our own doctrine and returned home before someone starts accusing us of gross hypocrisy. But of course our homeland is where those nice Germans who are so keen on a federal state now live and we have made it plain that we want no truck with that.

Answers on a postcard to .........

Someone not born in the same country as you.

Nice acceleration though. Saw Ian Hislop on the train yesterday and he got off at Newbury. Watermill I think on Thursday.

Doesn’t accelerate that fast when it is stacked behind orher services.

Despite being one of those new trains it is still 30 minutes late leaving Reading and these new fast trains are seriously uncomfortable; a pile of shoite. No back support and hard as wood.

As you quite rightly say, often, confirmation bias.

The Union Flag is demonstrably popular amongst NF supporters as is evident in the amount of images recovered in a cursory Internet search. It is even installed in their website's logo. It stands to reason, therefore, that should supporters of NF feel the need to protest with a flag, it is likely it would involve them waving a Union Flag.

Of course, having a Union Flag doesn't necessarily equal being an NF supporter.

The Jetblack into reading is very good, or at least it was, only use it occasionally if I'm going in to see someone and its not worth the hassle of driving in.

I have occasionally taken the bus sometimes just for a bit of casual sightseeing biggrin.gif

The bus replacement tends to leave at times that feel intuitive, as were the trains until the new timetable. However, this week every train has been technically late; I’ve never known it this bad without extreme weather.

I don’t mind the bus; they are often punctual, have a sensible timetable and usually get a seat.
