You are quite right Strafin!

Actually agree it was quite moving and stirred long unused patriotic feelings. And no, its taken no time at all until all the whiners and wingers have come out fighting. Generally like me - the old brigade who are responsible for lousing things up big time for you youngsters. I too have an American colleague and we often share a morning commute - after the Today programme his usual comment is 'I'd slit my wrists if I lived here all the time, those g***s set your national agenda' . Says it all.

Sincerely hope that the Olympics will be the start of a new beginning....is it really too late now?

Spoke with someone today who has been to a few of the events. He was very impressed with the Park and the set up.

Apparently, there is no right of re-entry and upon leaving early your ticket is scanned and the seat is made available again to buy for £5 to people outside. So it is worth going and trying your luck maybe (if you were not lucky enough to get a ticket via the website).

I watched the opening ceremony on TV - impressive - the guy who was in charge of the lighting effects certainly deserves a medal.

Pleased those badminton players were disqualified - what an insult to other competitors and those who had paid good money to come and watch! I can understand the pressure to win, but that was a sad day for sport. I suppose the authorities are very sensitive to games being "thrown" not least because of the huge betting scams that have taken place.

"lefty, multicultural crap!"

Yes, so right, it was, some truth from a politician at last. I was waiting for them to wheel on Tony Benn, Michael Foot, striking miners and Arthur Scargill.

It was utterly shameful, superficial, dishonest and a white elephant in motion. I thought I was watching the MOSCOW Olympics of 1980 in an anti-western rant.

The James Bond bit was ok but the film showed him jumping from the AgustaWestland in daylight when it was in fact dark outside.

The opening ceremony should not have been entrusted to a pinko, fellow-travelling trotskyite. It should have been non-political and Anglo Saxon.

What was leftist about the Industrial Revolution?

Would anyone care to point out the idiocy of having a go about "multicultural" and then saying "Anglo-Saxon" in the same rant?

OK I did actually start a reply a while ago. I am Viking stock with Huguenot thrown in.
The French came over en masse and set up trades in London and Saltsters in Lincolnshire.
My Grandmothers name was Sales. Common name for the area.
My wife was from the puffin land of Faroes (a few years before)
So we are all mixed..ce

Chuckle ... no. It seems Sales/ Sallis is common for the area, quite a few ended up in Australia.Probably transported.
One was hung at Norwich castle for being a witch. It is amazing I am here.
I am also named after a wold on the south side of the Humber river.
Actually I have always felt the area was named after me!

January sales seem to last all year.
