I've heard a rumour that the KC has shut.

Does anybody on here know any more about this?

Closed last night apparently sad.gif

I had heard a week or so ago that it was up for sale but had no idea that it was in danger of closing down

Just had a look and it's definitely not open at the moment.

No signs up at present though.

It was one of the only pubs in town that had a regular clientelle, I used to take part in their quiz on Monday nights sometimes, will have to try the LSBs now.

Come Christmas there will only be 2 pubs left in Newbury. Both Wetherspoons. Tied Houses don't have a hope in h3ll.

If the KC is now shut then this is seriously a bad thing for the town's licensed trade.

The occupants had done a fantastic job rebooting it from it's previous incarnation(s) although personally I did find it entertaining back in those days!

It is not surprising that pubs are closing. £3.20 or more a pint is a ridiculous price. They and/or the breweries are pricing themselves out of business.

Its the breweries - tied houses only make about 9p a pint when they charge £3.20 sad.gif

I totally agree with this. I'm not fond of weatherspoons as a concept, but I know where i'll be spending most of my nights out from now on. £2 a pint rather than £3.50 for the same thing is a no-brainer. Let's hope that the breweries respond positively to the competition before it's too late.

My feelings are, if the KC cannot survive, then no small pub can. Then again, to run a tied pub is almost slavery anyway.

Which bit of Weatherspoon's concept don't you like?

Totally devastated sad.gif Where will I go for lunch now? Yes did try Diamond Tap and was nice to get a meal and a coke for a fiver but for the KC to go is not right. I hope new tenants are found but Paddy really did turn it around and improved the food after the tenants before.

I doubt they are actually part of Wetherspoons' concept!

Unfortunately, rents are to high and trade too little.. Weathersponns has hoovered up all the Chavs and persons dependant on drink. This gives them volume and allows them to churn out drinks at low prices.

If you are happy to share a pint with ex cons and pikeys while paying not a lot, then that is fine. The KC however was a nice environment with respectable people, and it is such a shame to see it go!!

No wonder Wetherspoons is so busy then. Chavghanistan (Newbury) has now got an abundance of such undesirables.

I walked up Northbrook street today and the amount of slovenly and scruffy women pushing prams was depressing. Not to mention the neanderthals aimlessly wandering around.
