I know it has been aired to the point of saturation on this forum but why oh b****y why do supermarket shoppers behave as though they are engaging in some glorified garden party ? I popped into Sainsburys this morning and having eventually secured a parking space while the 4x4 brigade circumnavigate in order to find a drive in bay , I then find myself at the mercy of the laconic shopper. Trolley in one hand phone in other they meander down the isles with all the urgency of a three toed sloth .

So my new resolution is to design a shopping trolley loosely based on the Boudicca chariot principal thus enabling me to shop quickly and efficiently.

If you think I am a cantankerous old s*d then you are correct . angry.gif

p.s. Happy New Year fellow ranters .

Best wishes Lord Tup.
But what about the customers who choose to eat the shopping as they go round.
Yes I am sure they were going to pay for it.

My most satisfactory hit was a child in a little car. Put his head out of the window and nearly lost it.
I was steaming merrily along the Nile, or was it the aisle?

I tripped some kid up once as he kept on running around me screaming. I got him with the end of trolley just as he was really accelerating. Mrs Strafin went crazy at me afterwards but I like to think I may have taught that little boy a lesson that will help him in the future. And if not I got a kick out of it. He wasn't hurt by the way.

I would have thought someone of your stature would shop at Waitrose.
Obviously you need to shop online since you feel that supermarkets are only made for you.

Better luck next time, eh? I too was in Sainsbury's this morning - who knows, my lord tup, our paths may have crossed! I shall have to look out for the ermine cloak next time.

I was surprised it was so crowded for a Monday - surely people had done enough shopping to feed a regiment by this time last week? I can usually tell how busy it's going to be by the number of cars on the roof as I drive past. Luckily I found a space downstairs as it was raining stair rods.

Last week, I started queuing behind a couple of 30-something women - they were busy chatting standing there with a full trolley with the belt nearly empty of the previous shopper's goods. I forget quite what I said - something like asking if they were in the queue. I got quite a look. smile.gif

Somewhat elitist comment if one may be so bold old chap , as Lady Tup is quick to point out a can of beans is a can of beans .
Besides Sainsburys has a covered car park and I'm damned if I am going to get wet just to satisfy your stereotypical image of how the nobility should conduct their shopping .

Coincidently have just read about a trolley rage incident in this mornings paper. A woman rammed a man in M &S as he didnt get out of her way quickly enough. He suffered a broken hip and she was arrested on Boxing Day.

And the man was deaf so could not hear her asking him to move (if indeed she did) So next time one of you ram a trolley into someone, they too could be deaf.

They may or may not be suffering from challenged hearing but they will most certainly be walking with a limp . wink.gif

On a serious note though it is only goes to prove that we are becoming less tolerant of our contemporaries as the population increases .
By the time we get to 2050 I doubt we shall venture out of our houses . sad.gif

Actually, the man is in intensive care with life-threatening complications. The woman was arrested on suspicion of causing GBH.

Never had a problem in the supermarket with trolleys, but what is it with mothers and pushchairs?

It was not my intention to belittle what is a very serious account of events. There is a place for levity and this is obviously not it and I apologise if it has offended .

My comment was more an expansion of the situation, not meant to be a criticism.

Or more likely got those headphones in that so many seem to wear these days!

What you fail to realise is that shopping is the No 1 leisure activity these days, of course one should take one's time and relax while enjoying one's leisure.

PS I find Waitrose the worst for 'slow shoppers' and blocked aisles - does this mean it is the place (as per the subtitle of this thread) to find the 'great unwashed'?

No, but it is the place to find people who are completely unaware of others around them, the self centred in a world of their own who probably wouldn't even notice if they ram,ed a trolley into you.

Some old geezer in Sainsburys was giving me the proper evils yesterday, the full up and down "check out my bum" look and rolling of eyes.
I had just come from the gym so was in my tacky trackies and sweater. That's probably why.

Had that slight inkling it was someone of a higher class than the rest of us and thought of you. <3

One assumes , always a dangerous precedent , that your comment is directed in my direction. I can assure you sir that I would not cast aspersions upon yours , or any one else's , sartorial appearance in a local Supermarket . Indeed some of the attire , particularly in the female of the species , is , shall we say , interesting . wink.gif

Now had you arrived at my club......... rolleyes.gif
