Could anybody recommend a Double Glazing company please. Either local or near Newbury/ Hungerford or further out. I know I could look in the papers or Yellow pages but I would rather go for a company that has been recommended than pick a name blindly. It is for my boyfriends mother. If you also recommend keeping away from a certain company (because of bad experience) I would also appreciate it.

Thanks, Heather.

I know a lot of people who have gone to Castle Windows and have never heard a bad word against them.

Surely a possible 'commercial use', unless accompanied by a declaration of (no) interest?

I too have heard good things about Castle. I got burned with the company that was in the Thatcham G C for a while. Quality (a laff) Direct.

Ah not a window gag.

All these window companies are the same, a bit smeary to me.
I remember as a wee lad growing up my mum using Castle Windows and they were rubbish for her.

I haven't used them but the really annoying radio ads means I can't exactly not mention Mark who puts the Mark in Trademark.
or Safestyle UK who say you buy one, yer get one free I SAID YER BUY ONE YOU GET ONE FREE call 0800 106 107 I say 0800 106 107 now!!

I am just repeating adverts.
Sleep time.

It is quite important to ensure that any doors, windows or conservatories that you might decide to embellish your property with are reported to West Berks Council building control. Some of the companies which trade are members of FENSA or similar. They are considered to be 'competent persons' and they can do the thing with Building Control through their trade association on your behalf. If you don't involve Building Control either befrorehand or on completion through your approved installer, you might just come unstuck if you want to sell your property and cannot provide the appropriate approval documentation. You might also find that their warranty is as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike when they re-invent their company.
I used a local company who were recommended to me, had FENSA on their website but when push came to shove, they were not registered and it cost me £120 to get retrospective approval from the council. Just be careful who you use.

We've used Castle Windows for various projects including a conservatory, and can only sing their praises.
They offer Guarantees via a 3rd party, vital should installing coy go bust. ohmy.gif

It's always wise to use someone who others endorse and have been established for many years.
Another local company, even more local than Castle, and older is Brand Windows at World's End, near Chieveley. wink.gif

More importantly, "Will you provide a Building Regs Certificate for your work". It's a minefield and it's important to get verification as it's one of the questions that your solicitor and the buyer's solicitor will ask and want to see the documentation if and when you want to sell your property. A third party insurance certificate or warranty won't do it.
It almost ranks with the question "Have you a certificate for that new boiler or the electrical work that has been done in the kitchen/bathroom".

Thank you everybody for taking time to offer suggestions and possible companies my boyfriends mother could use. It is always better to ask than just take a plunge in the papers or yellow pages. Again thank you.

Exhausted. That is brilliant advice, thank you.

Castles windows had replaced a window in my house before i moved in and the double glazing had failed as condensation had got inside. Rang them up and within the week they had replaced window no drama. used them since to replace all my windows albeit they were cheaper but no hassle
