They are still building a unit in Hambridge Road which looks very Wicky and is of the right sort of size so along with the fact that they are recruiting staff, I guess it's all systems go.

B&Q will find the pinch when it does open. Not sure that Tool Station is very well patronised so maybe they will pull the plug on that one which is a direct competitor of Screwfix.

I like Wickes as it has a bit of everything and it's all out on display. I also like B&Q but I don't like Homebase.

Homebase was never that special, it's even worse since they re-vamped it rolleyes.gif .

You're right, it's no longer a man's shop, great for wallpaper and a hundred shades of beige but very few items that can be added to the 'come in handy' shelf in the workshop or manshed. The prices can be a bit rich sometimes. But, parking is free although sometimes there are no free places and the queue to get in and out leaves a lot to be desired. Totally ruins my weekly visit to Curry's to dribble in front of the curved screen HD televisions. Nice.

Tool Station already exists in Newbury about 100yards from the new store so maybe if they close that one but I can't imagine two that close. Wouldn't make financial sense.

The plans included a Tool Station inside Wickes, but as there is an empty unit next to Wickes it may be going in there instead.

I believe they will be moving from their current site.
