I wonder what would have happened if we had more effective immigration control at all ports of entry?

We do have. We aren't in Schengen.

I think that you may have overlooked the word "effective"

I see the petitionn for him TO make a State visit is currently gaining more sugnatures per hour than the one against. No mention of this on the BBC though? Wonder why......

And it is still the case (11.20 on 1 Feb):
Donald Trump should make a State Visit to the United Kingdom.
3,957 signatures in the last hour
Prevent Donald Trump from making a State Visit to the United Kingdom.
2,711 signatures in the last hour

At this rate the pro Trump petition (203,111) will overtake the anti Trump petition (1.786,212) in just under 53 days.

I was just making the point that it appears to me that it's only extremists in this country that support Trump. It was an aside to mention the grammar.

I think it was an inference that as he is not anti brexit and anti trump then quid pro quo he is thick. And you know you meant that. rolleyes.gif

I was being charitable and assuming the author was in an agitated state when he wrote it and proof reading wasn't top of his priority list.

Do you not think perhaps that those who wish to ban Trump and do awful things to him and his house maybe extremists?

Banning pre-shredded cheese to make America grate again, is one step to far.

You do know that the petition isn't demanding Trump be banned from anywhere don't you? Actually the petition positively demands that Trump be allowed in as the US head of state, it just asks that his visit be denied the status of an Official Visit because of the embarrassment that would cause to the Queen.

Yes, but I wasn't particularly referring to the petition. More those on marches / demonstrations / "tweets" etc. on both sides of the Atlantic.

" HM Government believes the President of the United States should be extended the full courtesy of a State Visit. We look forward to welcoming President Trump once dates and arrangements are finalised.
During her visit to the United States on 27 January 2017, the Prime Minister, on behalf of Her Majesty the Queen, invited President Trump for a State Visit to the UK later this year. The invitation was accepted. This invitation reflects the importance of the relationship between the United States of America and the United Kingdom. At this stage, final dates have not yet been agreed for the State Visit.
