Cycle lanes ARE on the road.

Not in Lower Way. The south pavement has been converted into a two-way divided cycle route. Pedestrians should not be using that side of the road - there is no lane for them. Pedestrians should be using the pavement on the other side.

First of all there is no legal requirements (just etiquette) for cyclists to ride any certain way.

Yes there are - many of them - they're in the highway code.
(That rarely read publication! ) wink.gif

It depends which ones you are talking about. But as cyclists don't have a licence it is very hard to enforce.

Actually aren't they instructions, rather than laws for cyclists?

No, many of them are laws such as passing through red traffic lights or riding on the pavement.

(Usually indicated by the word "MUST" in the wording of the regulation.)

True, I wasn't thinking of those ones so much. But we still have the same problem as I mentioned before.

Why is enforcement a problem? I don't have a licence to exist or walk about, but if I break the law in any way, I don't think there would be any problem enforcing it.

It is rare that a person gets pinched for cycling inappropriately, no lights, on the path, etc...

As Iommi said.

How many times have you seen a cyclist break the law (i.e. going through lights etc) - even in front of police officers - and they never pursue it?

For those still a bit baffled, it's kind of like a spoonerism, swapping the phonemes for 'f' anc 'c'.

Probably baffled you more now rolleyes.gif

For those even more baffled, this was back in August on page 1, commenting on the OP. blink.gif

Actually it was a combination of the old joke about the drunk driver asking what the problem was when pulled over, and a play on words, since our resident WPC is 'ossy1'.
