Ladytup and I decided to go to the new vue cinema today ( Wednesday ) to see the "block buster " 2012 . We paid for our "concessionary " seats and were offered the choice of upgrade to more comfortable ones for the additional cost of £1.50 / head .We declined the offer on financial grounds as much as anything , but that aside we found the auditorium completely empty apart from our good selves . This allowed us to try the deluxe seats for free though we actually watched from the cheaper seats as they seemed just as comfortable . The film itself was pure Hollywood , though we both thoroughly enjoyed it and felt the new cinema was a vast improvement on the ones we used to have in Newbury . We shall certainly attend again though .

QUOTE (JeffG @ Nov 26 2009, 11:12 AM) Well, I've booked for the 1330 performance of 2012 on Monday. Looks like it will be lonely, since I am the only one so far... Not that surprising really, I too have found this when I've been lucky enough to have time off during the normal working week for the majority of people and visited cinemas in other towns. Took the family to the new cinema on Saturday hoping to see a 16.30 screening but it was fully booked so had to get tickets for the 17.30 instead, so it is swings and roundabouts.

Ditto - went to see District 9 at Festival Place a few weeks ago on a midweek afternoon driving back from Guildford to Surrey. We were the only people in one of the larger screens there.

QUOTE (theone09 @ Nov 23 2009, 11:06 AM) It's 'The Forth Kind' that's based on true stories. I think claiming space-alien "probing" and the paranormal are based on truth is stretching the meaning of the word truth. A bit like saying Dr Who is science and EastEnders is entertainment.

QUOTE She did say there was nothing downstairs, will this be where the supposed restaurants will go? Yes Gumbo, There will be (after reading a few articles and a blueprint of the layout of this new cinema) one pub and two restaurants. If you knocked on the white walls downstairs their hollow, with probably huge amounts of room inside. I guess they wanted to open the cinema quickly to not disappoint people after saying it will be open on a certain date. I would also like to add something about this cinema... One late evening (saturday just gone), i visited the cinema for a late viewing of the film, Paranormal Activity. Even though i knew it was really bad, there was nothing better to do with my evening at such a late time. I was with 3 other friends who were over the age of 15 to view this film. We were not allowed to watch any film even if it is a certificate 15 unless we are over 18 and had ID. This was because it was passed 10 o'clock. Does this sound stupid to you? Now i know most of you are going to say this is to prevent anti-social behaviour but really, they have security downstairs at all times anyway and their loosing out on alot of money because of this. I was very disapointed and almost flipped when i got told this. When i get the chance i will complain further about this and im pretty sure this is the only cinema that does this. Oh and let me just add, about £3.50 for a WKD bottle (yes they have a license) shocking, but this is normal for a cinema i guess.

I doubt they want to lose their cinema license and incur a massive fine, though I think the law only restricts people under 12 from being in the cinema after 22:00. Then again based on the over 18 part it sounds like it was an over 18's only showing, which Vue and Odeon do for films 15 cert and lower. I mean I was refused entry to 'Up' in Reading because I didn't realise it was an over 18 showing, and I hadn't thought to bring ID.

Pleased to report that I was not alone for the early afternoon showing of 2012 today, and in fact I thought I was going to miss the start because of the queue for tickets for that and other screens. First cinema I've been to, though, where the person issuing tickets then goes off and serves popcorn and drinks, thereby making the wait longer! And I could have done without nearly 20 minutes of ads at the beginning (so being late wouldn't have mattered anyway )

QUOTE (Ziggy @ Dec 7 2009, 01:03 PM) We are thrilled with the cinema in our house. It's so lovely for our young teenagers to have somewhere to go with their friends. It will be getting a lot of business from Ziggy Towers. You've got a cinema in your house? How much do you charge? Less than Vue?
