Congratulations to the Bean Counters at WBC for doing their job.

I did a good job today and helped numerous people with their software problems.
A pat on the back for me as well. laugh.gif

Yes. Well done.

Are you regularly slagged off on here and in the local press then?

Do something right and they are "bean counters" if, and thank goodness it didn't, it had gone wrong they would have been called Finance Officers, accountants and what have you (possibly worse).

Typical!

I'm sorry but I don't quite understand, are you (Bill) trying to take some credit because the policy just happened to mature and you didn't lose £5 million by chance?

Did you save the public from losing five million quid?

Thought not.

At the end of the day, it is something to be pleased about. Even if it is a part of their job.

Neither did the council.

Are you suggesting the NWN is lying?

No. The story says that the council is patting itself on the back, that is true. What I am debating is whether or not a policy maturing organically well before any signs of a crash is the same as somebody averting a serious financial crisis with an incredible bit of foresight and nouse. While we're at it why are the council even risking our money in these schemes anyway?

Because it wasn't a "scheme". It was a high-interest savings account and the council are duty-bound to get the best return for our money.

Very few people were aware that there were problems with the Icelandic banking system at the time - in fact I opened an account with Kaupthing Edge about two weeks before they went bust. Fortunately, any private accounts were transferred to ING Direct. Public bodies weren't so lucky.

They ( WBC ) having made a tidy sum first time, could have re-invested the cash back in the Icelandic Bank. They didn't . They took the money out.

good show.

Bill1 - I am a qualified Accountant and have no problem with being called a bean counter. I was a Management Accountant at Vodafone for 8 years but found the job tedious and not inspiring so decided to change the direction of my career. I think you are being a little sensitive. Perhaps WBC workers have a persecution complex? ohmy.gif
