It was excellent. Can be hit and miss these outdoors events given our past history of poor Summers, but this one at Highclere hit the bulls eye. Totally excellent way to spend an afternoon with friends... great fireworks display to round off a great day.

Is it a multi cultural event? Sounds like an event where white racists go to wave the imperialist flag.
..I don't suppose there were many Guardian readers there either.
Transpose the event to the grounds of some Bavarian schloss, with 10,000 elderly flag waving Germans singing patriotic songs in full voice (Horst-Wessel-Leid not on the song sheet - not THAT sort of 'patriotic' event!), with the sound of Wagner booming from the speakers from the orchestra at full tempo and a Messerschmitt 109 doing cartwheels in the sky overhead and the same comment could be made about revelling in Imperial pasts..
.
With the sun we had yesterday there were times when the Spitfire pilot would have been looking down at a field full of people stood upright with their right arms out at full extension (blocking the sun, but you know what it looks like) and the ghosts of Spit' pilots of yore would have been urging yesterday's pilot behind the controls to flip the switch on the trigger controls and give us a blast of it's cannons.
A still photo of an imaginery event like that with arms extended would certainly get the Daily Mail readers in a tizz
We just had a good time
