Freeview set top boxes need retuning after lunchtime today (not before) otherwise viewers may lose certain channels.

According tot he blurb you should also be able to pick up HD which will mean better picture quality.

I've just tuned my three boxes, but one of them was a very old one and when it downloaded it gave the channels all different numbers. Luckily for me it was the kitchen one.

No doubt will be a bit annoying for those that bought a FreeSat box

EDIT: Not so annoying now I've found out you will need a new Freview box to receive HD!!!!

Am I right to assume you will only be able to get freeview HD if you have a "HD ready" TV?

No. You will need a digital tunner which supports MPEG4 and will be called Freeview HD, in other words you'll need to by another one. Having a HD (Freeview not Freesat) ready TV at the moment just means you can plug a HD device into it, i.e. Sky HD, Bluray DVD, PS3's etc...

Bill wasn't asking about a HD box, he wanted to know if he needed an HD ready TV, which he does as well as an HD box you mentioned, when they become available.

I think you'll find that HD on Freeview is quite a long way off. Freesat is an ideal replacement for Sky+ if you mostly only watch BBC/ITV and are satisfied with their limited HD offering.

Plus, you don't have to pay $ky money each month for the right to record free channels on your PVR.

Not that far off....December for first transmissions in London followed by major city roll out in time for the World Cup next year
and full coverage by the end of 2012.

Hmm. I'm not so sure:

The final roll-out schedule of Freeview HD across the UK is currently being finalised, but is expected to be broadly in line with the digital switchover process, starting in December 2009 and concluding in 2012.

Some areas of Newbury can get Central, and 2011 is only just over a year away.

I know what he said, your response suggested he'd just need a HD Ready TV, which at the moment is incorrect.
