Crazy lady just nearly got herself killed by walking out in front of me. I beeped...so she started a rant about having right of way, and reporting ME for careless driving.

Just checked out Highways Code which says pedestrians have priority at a Give Way only when they've already started crossing. This lady was on the pavement, but just stepped out.

Crazy

The trouble is even though you might be in the right it will come down to your word or hers if you hit her. I would imagine the law would favour a pedestrian over a motorist.

I used to think that pedestrians had right of way at a junction too, but after a discussion (on here I believe), I now know that is not the case. However I do think it is an assumption that is bandied about.

Pedestrians generally have right of way, but what they don't have is a right to step in the road without due diligence.

It's one of those things you generally only get wrong once.

Defensive driving - always expect the unexpected!

You soon learn that on a motorcycle! wacko.gif

I don't think we can fault Bofem on that one wink.gif

Now, as for defensive walking, that's a different story...

Yonks ago in these forums, I think I suggested pedestrians should have to take a test before being let out on their own. smile.gif

There's no real need to either it seems like there is a Pedestrian Crossing every 100 yds. or so for them to use. rolleyes.gif

Go and stand at any junction and they all do it they just walk out without looking.. Not just the youngsters but mothers with prams, people in their 40s, 50s, 60s.... Baffles me it really does and every time I try and turn into a junction or approach a junction to come out and get the filthiest looks from pedestrians who just walk straight out into the road it really does begger belief. angry.gif

I don't why it's been so bad recently, but 2010 seems to be the year for pig ignorant motorcyclists. I've stopped moving over for them now, they just seem to go where they like when they like, normally have the wrong indicator on, and expect evreyone to move out of the way. I understand filtering but this summer it has gone to a new level. Could it be that the recession is pushing the boy racers on to two wheels?

Did you hear about the biker who saw the headlights of a pair of motorcyclists riding two abreast coming towards him and tried to ride between them?

I'm not going to be drawn into a "all motorcyclists are bad" argument again.
As you well know there are bad drivers of all vehicles out there .

Like I said - don't tar all with the same brush.

Rule 88

Not sure what you mean by the recession & boy racer comment?
Have you seen the price of biking these days especially for a youngster?
These lads couldn't afford it!

(By the way we're going off topic again - we will get a bollocking! tongue.gif)

Didn't mean to tar you all, it just seems to me that the good vs bad numbers for motorcyclists this year has increased on the bad side, I agree there are good and bad in all vehicular forms. I note that several friends of mine who used to have Saxo's have now bought bikes, and are getting a much better power to money ratio!

I nearly hit somebody who jumped out into the road, gave me the V sign and laughed. That was so frustrating. There should be a law against such behaviour. But I suppose the answer to that is catching them first.

I find the Craven Rd/Bartholomew St roundabout junction the worst for lunatic pedestrians, every day people just walk across without looking, some know what they are doing and then to give you the evil some times as well and I know they are thinking to themselves 'look how hard I am', every time it is a chav or one of the lovely town drunks/druggie. And it is not always the pedestrians at fault, the amount of times I see d*ck head drivers coming out of Craven waving people across when they don't actually have the right of way at the junction as cars coming from St John's and wanting to turn in to Craven Rd could run these people over. I actually think it would be better to put some barriers up at this junction to force people to either cross further down Craven or use the crossings by Jones Robinson or Indigo bay.............but that would be far to sensible!
