Went there today and what a waste of time. Not only could I not have what I wanted as it was sold out, fair does, but the state of the cutlery was disgusting. The first 2 spoons I picked out of the so called clean cutlery were still covered in dried food! I shall not be going back there in a hurry.

Not a good experience Ron, I'm sorry about that. I quite like having scampi and chips or coffee there. The staff are friendly, I can almost always get a paper to read, and it's very convenient to park.

Why make all the fuss about quality, Jamie and Delia , and then fall by the wayside.

Although Simon Kirby usually gets away better. Parking ,shorts ,scampi what more do you need.

There is always a list of best this and best that, a poor chef in Richmond Garden Centre
called it a day after she was awarded a Michelin star.
I can certainly start a worst supermarket restaurant thread.

In Wisbech. Didn't eat there but the smell of boiled cabbage
brought back childhood memories of reading derring do from Stalags.
No wonder they escaped.

On the other side of the coin of going out posh is the hoovering in the background.(an old gag),sorry hovering.
Staff ready to pounce as soon as a sip of wine is taken, which disadvantages the partner/guests..
Drop the napkin,elegantly applied, and another will mysteriously appear with the same flourish.
I am sure Ron that your next visit might be better, check the cutlery first though.

Careful though Rosinante, they serve up some funny old meat in those posh French restaurants.

My recommendation: For really good fish and chips you need to visit Aldeburgh.

Certainly did and made sure that the row of people waiting for their food saw the condition of the cutlery!

I have gone to Sainsburys restaurant many times and since they refitted the shop and moved it upstairs to the clothes (so now your clothes smell of Bacon instead of clothes) it's rubbish. I need to agree with this point.

Savacentre in theale is much better I find and if you are wanting to go shopping and get a meal, worth the 20 minute drive. Or 10 if you are me in a rush.
I'm slightly confused because the walls inside the house have been painted and the smell is really strong so I'm a bit woohooroereyyyyeyere but my point stands

Although people mention fish above, the last meal I had at Sainsburys in Nooberry was Fish and Chips and it wasn't too bad although I couldn't understand the mumbly and clearly-miserable woman who was serving, probably would have rather been at home watching the one show than doing her job which obviously pays for her TV license to watch the one show.

Anyway due to the lack of nice eating experiences, I complained and did recieve a refund for both meals, in addition a voucher for £10 quid.
Sort of like when that little girl renamed Tiger Bread to Giraffe bread. They were sent a £2 voucher. "Great" she thought "I can buy some Haribo" although her parents collected the Nectar points which was not very fair, that could have gone towards the childs future pointless-store-points collection.
Although I think the brilliant idea of renaming Tiger Bread deserved at least £5,000 since that is probably what the team who work on "naming" products (and eg coming up with those catch phrases on the "basic" range, eg "it's still chicken just not quite as chickeny as the birds eye.." earn.

Andy - I actually use my car for work doing 25,000 a year, my license is pretty important. So yes; I do not tend to go faster than 80 in normal cirumstances. If I need to get out of trouble, eg a string of lorries on the motorway when I'm coming down the sliproad I will go over and above this, afterwards I will return to 80mph. ... Two reasons for this, partly I actually have set a speed limiter in my car at 85 (benefits of having a highline MFD, I can set a speed warning in 5mph increments) because I would not go higher than this speed in any normal circumstances ... I still do not go more than 80 on the motorway; because this is a speed which many people travel at and is allowable in terms of policing. ...

To average 60 mph for a 12.4 mile journey would take nearly 12.5 minutes, but an average of 60 would mean breaking the speed limit. To average 40 mph (more likely) would take 18.6 minutes. To do it in 20 minutes would require an average of 37.2 mph.

What if he was across the road? He said it takes between 10 and 20 minutes. It is reasonable to assume that on this 'Newbury' forum that he was suggesting that the journey is from Newbury to Theale. For his assertion to be correct, we would have start closer than Newbury, or break the speed limit.

NWNREADER point is all too true. I think you should lighten up Andy. If you want I have a multipack of Skips I bought, I'm happy to share? If you eat Skips and drink red bull then I'm in no doubt you would be positively flying around your house.
I actually live in Thatcham. Not a massive difference but hey. Neither should I validate you with a response. You clearly are attempting to bait me with a burning edition of a Performance Volkswagen magazine.
For the record the journey is 8.5 miles for me. From my Mums house which is where I kept my motorcycles when I first moved house. I eventually brought them with me after the proper security had been installed (snipers on the rooftops) plus a ground Anchor (so basically I was habouring several boats)
