Newbury Today Forum _ Random Rants _ "I got mugged...and my bag contained £200"

Posted by: xjay1337 Oct 11 2011, 01:36 PM

http://www.basingstokegazette.co.uk/news/local/9296458.Do_you_know_this_mugger_/

So it seems mugging is still a common occurrence and it's regularly happening in fairly populated areas, sometimes even in the day.

It's a shame that it happens and it shouldn't but it makes me laugh that whenever it does and someone's wallet or purse is stolen, it always magically contains a large quantity of money.

As if that would somehow get them more sympathy or the hope that when they get their bag returned and the perpetrator is arrested (and likely given a community service) they will somehow cough up £200 and pay that back?

Taken from the link I posted at the top of the post:

No-one in Basingstoke has ever owned £200. And if they did they should never have it in their bag in public! Who carries £200 cash with them, honestly, really?

There could be several reasons why she had £200 in her bag and I know someone who carries that sort of cash about.
Carrying cash is sometimes necessary from time to time.

As said above, some people have to carry amounts of cash from time to time. It may be the case that the victim was targetted because the mugger had knowledge of her circumstances.

P.S. According to the link you posted, this happened between 9.40pm and 9.50pm.

I'm aware it happened at night. I said "sometimes even in the day".

Wouldn't between 9:40 and 9:50 be 9:45? rolleyes.gif

£200 is not an excessively amount of money to carry. I drew that amount this weekernd. A cash gift for a small god daughter, pay the milkman and window cleaner, a monthly bus ticket, a night in the pub and the rest went on a daily newspaper for the week and a couple of sandwiches from the bakery.
