Interesting one this.
RBFRS say that you should only call them if there is an immediate risk to life.

But who would YOU call?
The "free" Fire and Rescue Service or an expensive recovery garage?
Should people be charged if they call out RBFRS to a non-life threatening situation?

Some of these idiots just don't want to get out of their cars and get their feet wet by pushing their car out of the flood. In these circumstances the fire crews should turn up and use it as a rescue drill opportunity and start cutting the roof off before the driver has a chance to shout "Stop!!"

What if it's a young parent with a baby in the car?

Think.

A woman has the strength to push her car out of a raging river/stream? Cars are heavy. In the water it's added resistance. Some simply don't have the strength. Some panic. You can't possibly sit there in a warm dry house and say that easily.

Try explaining that to your missus when she calls you. "nah love push you're a strong'un... ! "

What with the declaration of only large potholes intending to be repaired and the Environment Agency allegedly failing in clearing waterways etc the only way to be sure of getting anywhere soon will be by something with some sort of tracked vehicle? unsure.gif

You will have to get normal suspension fitted Motormad at the least I think! laugh.gif

My spouse is a burly builder called Dave! Why would I assume that a young parent with a baby in the car was necessarily a woman (and a weedy one at that)?

He's fairly buoyant... practically unsinkable...

Charlie as in the female type then. Gotcha.

You would generally make an assumption that she is a woman from the hypothetical situation I created where said weedy woman and baby was stuck.

Why would someone with a child in their car, drive it into a raging river/stream?

The comment about women seems a bit UKIP too.

I don't know.
Why did some one drive their brand new Audi RS5 into a flood?
Bad judgement, lack of haste, carelessness, many reasons.

It's simply biology that women are generally physically less strong then men. So it was a simple example. It's not sexist or facist laugh.gif
Infact saying that, surely that's in support of pushing women out of floods...??

Typical council employee making no sense as normal.

I'm not sure about driving into a flood, but it seems you're certainly trying to dig yourself out a hole now.

Do the public think the Fire Service should be responsible for getting someone out of a situation they should not have got themselves in to? Free of charge?

People who drive into floods that are there to be seen are barely more than broken down.

With no risk to life I have strong reservations about the Emergency Services being the default for a tow,,,,,,

A mate at work helps rescue people in floods and he says some of them are a bit...well, wet. (the people not the women).
In terms of, they're in a 1ft pool of water and just stop.. he's said many times he simply escorts the people from the vehicle and drives it out himself!
Many times though they are in genuine concern, their vehicle has cut out from taking in water, no doubt ruining the engine at the same time, and they are unable to get out due to the flow or simply panic situation.

I do hope these numpties who risk such trouble are those that can't find the secret stick or drive twenty mph under the limit when passing speed cameras!
