err, which is what everyone does on here. His opinion was that it was a mistake. For which he was accused of being a council lackey for having that opinion.

Yet the far more risible claim that the council put the sign up knowingly was accepted as much more likely because coucils do that kind of thing.
I think you're taking it all too seriously.

It's just a bit of fun, with a small number of people throwing a load of conspiracy theories around, under various pseudonyms.

Now you see this is where it all goes wrong.
The council does not take people's genuine concerns seriously??
"Oh it's just a small number of people who don't matter throwing around silly conspiracy theories."

not much point in complaining officially if you just get your head bitten off.

QUOTE (dannyboy @ Mar 3 2015, 08:05 PM) *
me moan?

That is all you've been doing since you've come back. What you could have done is created a sensible debate.

QUOTE
This isn't a forum. it is a place where you can come & moan about something ( preferably the local councils ) and wait for the handful of other forum members to come & give you three bravos & good slap on the back as everyone self congratulates & thinks what a clever bunch they are.

'Moaning,' 'debating' or whatever you want to call it; what is wrong with that? That is what forums are for. As the saying goes; 'what is one man's meat is another man's poison.

QUOTE
…( as Jeff G did on the monumenatlly important car park sign thread - GMR will be dining out for months on that scoop )

I wish.

QUOTE
…say actually I think it was just a case of someone forgetting to change a sign, then god help you.

If that was the case then it shows incompetence and a lack of organisation. I would rather believe that it was deliberate, as it shows organisation and intelligence behind their goal. Incompetence is a lot worse. Where else have they made 'mistakes,' as you call it? I think the citizens of Newbury should be very concerned if they can so easily make such mistakes (mistakes, I might add, that has cost the fair (fare) paying public dearly. However, one problem with your theory; it was reported, not only by phone but also to traffic wardens. So do you still call it a 'mistake'?

QUOTE
There is no room for debate, or discussion. You either toe the line or be derided. This is why the forum is as moribund as the local market ( to quote an oft used line ). Rant over, I'm off to the pub.

That is your point of view, not shared by everyone on here. I think you need to revaluate your comments.

And this is from somebody who works for WBC.

Really? Who? Or do you know this as a fact because you are one of those writing under a different name? When writing under a different name do you attack WBC or us your other pseudonym as another defender of WBC?

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ Mar 4 2015, 02:15 PM) *
He used language that went beyond that and people replied in kind. He; however, threw his rattle out of the pram first, as you appear to be doing (other than your plan B which is clearly to disrupt the thread). The sign was wilfully put up. In my view the people responsible for signage are incompetent or the sign was deliberately left ambiguous; which isn't a silly idea if they felt they couldn't be bothered to set a reminder in MS Outlook to go and take the thing down. To then continue to accept revenue from fines knowing that the sign was ambiguous means it is deliberate.

Spot on.

I haven't been on here for awhile, not because of the reason that have been made (stifling of debate or no debates) but not enough new people joining in. I do think a Newbury forum is an important thing and I congratulate Newbury News for giving us one. Maybe NewburyNews could advertise this forum a bit more. I've never seen an advertisement in their paper for this forum. Maybe it should be opened up to other important issues, not just Newbury.

Why haven't you been on for awhile? But I do agree that they should make this forum more interesting by having other sections that can look outside Newbury/ Berkshire.
