See
http://www.heraldseries.co.uk/news/hswanta...hases_burglars/

Of course heading should be Farnborough.

Why would the NWN pick up on a story about Farnborough?

Agreed not on NWN's patch, but I see that there is another Farnborough: a village near Wantage, which probably explains that paper's report, and what it's referring to.

Yes I know that the story is referring to the one near Wantage, I don't see why a Newbury paper would report on that though.

I drove past on Monday afternoon and saw two police cars there, guessed there'd been a break-in. Actually the house in question is between West Ilsley and Farnborough, so should certainly be within NWN catchment area.

Farnborough is in West Berkshire, well with the NWN area.

It is actually nearer to Wantage than to Newbury, and a lot of Farnborough people deal with the former town rather than Newbury.

Probably because it is a much nicer place, as well. wink.gif

I'm sure they do - but that doesn't mean the NWN shouldn't cover it - Pangbourne is further away, far more oriented towards Reading than Newbury - but the NWN still covers it. The NWN has a Tadley section - having lived there I can be sure that residents look towards Basingtoke and Reading before Newbury.

NWN should and does cover all of West Berkshire (because it is governed from Newbury) - and nearby parts of Hampshire.

The NWN for some reason doesn't have a dedicated section for the north Downlands, whereas it does for Thatcham, Hampshire, Eastern area, Lambourn, Hungerford etc. But we most certainly are in the NWN catchment area - we just have to peruse the entire paper, because any news items for our area get shoved into any old corner.

It was on page 7 (ish) of this week's NWN, we broke the story.

Good work

Here's a few more to follow up on.

Are our schools not as great as WBC would have us believe?

Local woman gets MBE

Local bank branch shuts

Rural doctors' surgery to close

I suppose many find the theft of some gates in Thatcham more interesting than a new uranium factory being built on your doorstep,

A phone call asking for help from a worried elderly relative to make sure their gates were secure prompted the post actually.

They have all appeared in the paper in recent weeks, I know because I worked on three of them myself. Not everything that appears in the paper goes online.

Sorry about that.

Like many, I don't buy the paper version.

Nothing yet on the stabbing in Newbury on Saturday night? I'm keen to know if the guy is alright.
