A totally unscientific and very haphazard survey by myself reveals that, judging by the posters and placards, 99% of the cows, sheep, chickens and crows in the farmlands and other green spaces around Newbury intend to vote for the Conservative candidate.

I wonder what impact this will have on the final tally come tonight?

UKIP for me. I would have voted for any main party that told me the TRUTH about how they were going to pay the deficit back by hey ho they have not so Greece here we come.

The problem is the electorate are stupid and as soon as any candidate starts to talk about it, their real-time popularity starts to slide. Like with Greece, we don't want to hear it and want to bury our heads in the sand...but it's coming regardless of who is in power.

I concur Tommi. I'd prefer to be treated like an adult and not a fool though. It's a sign of a real dumbing down of society. We can't tell the people the truth because they are so stupid they will vote for someone else.

So whoever wins will be a national pariah within a few months. At least if they had told us the truth they would then not be held in such future contempt. As I said before I can really see a Greece type scenario when the Public sector has to cut back in the way that the Private sector has already been forced too.

If you don't understand how our voting process works and that you don't need your card to vote, probably best they don't vote at all.

I'm a bit shocked to find out that if you don't have your polling card, you don't need to have ID, except in Northern Ireland.

Theoretically this makes it possible for someone to impersonate you and steal your vote. Though I suppose the invalid vote can be traced and withdrawn.

Everybody's vote counts. You can't discriminate just because of ability, or lack of.
Now, if all those drivers who don't know how to drive were excluded fromthe roads..... That's a different matter!!

Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has emphasised that those listed on the electoral register can still vote, with proof of identification, such as a driving licence. People can check they are on the register by contacting either Test Valley or Basingstoke and Deane borough councils.

All you need to vote in the UK is your name. No other ID is required. to say you need to bring proof of identity is simply wrong and the council should know that.

Nearly right. It's actually called personation and it is an arrestable offence on direction of the Presiding Office.

In which case Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council have got it wrong about ID .
