I am a shocked but strangly not surprised that Greenham Parish Council want to carry out a survey to determine how much traffic there will be on racedays now, after permission has been given to build the 1500 houses.
Excuse the pun but isn't this a little like "closing the stable door after the horse has bolted".
Why was this crucial information not gathered by Greenham Parish Council months ago and submitted to WBC before permission to build was granted?
Doesn't sound like good representation by the Council of the people who live in the Greenham area who are going to suffer badly with traffic problems now that this project has been approved.

It's a fair question, but WBC have been so determined to get this development though that they have pretty much ignored the opinions of their own traffic experts (including a survey of race day traffic) and simply accepted that there will be more traffic congestion in this already over congested area.

Race days are a traffic nightmare now, they will be worse in the future.

I'm intrigued to find out what the parish council hope to gain from doing another survey.

Are you seriously "shocked" by a traffic survey?

The rest of the "I'm shocked" sentence goes, "...after permission has been given to build the 1500 houses." So it is not the survey, but the timing of it that is shocking Bloggo.

Might this not be alleviated somewhat by the new access bridge over the railway into Hambridge Road?

I don't know - just posing the question.

I thought this might have been taken into consideration when the plans were approved.

The bridge, I believe, won't get built (if at all) until at least 3 years into the project.
Daft isn't it not to try and fix the infrastructure problem first before adding to it.
Greenham and the surrounding parts of Newbury will be gridlocked.
