Bad Service.

My son and I went to Curry’s to get some electrical goods. We kept asking for help but were told that others were in front of us (fair enough) and that they were short of staff. But every time a new customer came in they were seen straightaway. Eventually somebody came and saw us, but he didn’t have a clue about the product and their ‘specialist’ didn’t work on certain days or certain hours. My son wanted a new TV and certain other equipment so he was going to spend quite a bit of money. After awhile we went to Basingstoke and got what we could have got in Newbury. There was no organisation; they were running around like headless chickens. We weren’t the only ones that walked out of Currys in the Retail Park at that time.

Now we appreciate that stores are going to be busy and that we can’t always be serviced straight away; but we don’t expect to see others (who had just came in) being serviced before us. And their staff should at least be trained in the appropriate area. We actually went to Curry’s in Basingstoke and saw a young girl there who knew about the product and was very helpful; full marks to Curry’s in Basingstoke and the girl who served us.

Must admit i have had similar disappointment in that store.

You should write and complain to head office. Chances are they will sort out the local store or at least bring it up with them. Maybe you might even get some vouchers?

You might have been able to save a trip to Basingstoke. Sainsbury's have a good range of TVs and I found the staff there very helpful. And you could have got Nectar points smile.gif

There are now a couple of free apps for mobile phones that let you scan barcodes and it will then tell you where you can buy the same thing cheaper.

Redlaser, Code Reader and Shopsavvy to name a few.

I wont shop there anymore. I visited a couple of times wanting to buy a laptop, the staff were clearly not interested in helping, more interested in chatting to themselves about what lunch break they were on etc. I wrote to head office, got a reply acknowledging my letter and that was it!

Now there is free three... but I take your point; using less paper will save the world from a catastrophe and help the environment. We should all do our part. wink.gif

The only problem with places like Sainsbury's they've got no expert people on the subject matter... but then again nor does Curry's in Newbury.

Ho Hum - have just brought my daughter back home from an abortive visit to Curry's Newbury. She wanted to buy a laptop she saw in the week - but didn't have a credit card with her. The price had been increased by £150!! Of course, although not pareticularly busy - no one at all around to ask. Anyway, she'll wait a few more days now as she's purchased on line.

So what - she should have done that in the first place. Do I really care about retail jobs in Newbury?

I'd recommend advice available on the Internet more than from a shop assistant.

That is a good idea, but sometimes people like the human touch.

Take a trip to Reading and John Lewis.

Good range, prices the same and you get an extended warranty FOC. Plus the Partners know their stuff and will help all the way.

Don't John Lewis do a price match guarantee as well?

In which case you can use live chat. The technical people at Novatech are extremely savvy if you need information. I have bought all my computing stuff from them for years - and they now have a store in Reading if you prefer to collect.

Richer Sounds in Reading are good too with competitive prices and excellent product knowledge and customer service in my experience.

In case I misled you, by live chat I didn't mean talking on the phone (although you can do that if you prefer), but an instant messaging feature on their site during office hours.

OK, thanks for that. It seems personal contact is dying.
