Apparently, only 1 in 10 workers wear a suit to work every day now and something like 40% of men don't own a tie.

Is dressing down the new dressing up?

Is this the deathknell for Suits Newbury?

Would you buy a house off an estate agent if he was wearing jeans?

I don't think it's the death of the suit at all. I fall into the majority of people where I can wear whatever I like to work. However, if I'm out seeing clients then I always wear a suit. I think people just need to dress according to the situation.

I personally don't think that the suit is dead. There is a time and place for it and that is down to ones own personal perception of the circumstances surrounding the decision of what to wear. A jacket and trousers can be equally smart and less formal.
However there are a lot of people of both sexes walking around and going to meetings with various people looking like sacks of sh*t which just sends out the message that they have no self respect and no respect for those they are meeting with.

It's the 'Wearing a suit with the shirt untucked' that grips me... Some sort of fashion statement or just can't be bothered to tuck the bledy thing in? Scruffy as anything! Give it a few years once the current generation mould themselves into the workforce of the future and you'll then see blokes walking into meetings with the tops of their suit trousers dragging down to cover half of their backside and exposing their boxers.... rolleyes.gif If ever there was an excuse to give someone a public 'wedgie' that is it...

However, I have in the past been given a dressing down for dressing down, by my female boss. She wanted to know why I hadn't been wearing a tie and demanded that I wore one to work in future.... (It was during summer, it was hot and the thing was slowly strangling me during the day) I calmly pointed out that there was no such dress rule for my female colleagues, who were at that stage pretty much in knickers and bra (although that may have been my overactive imagination! blink.gif ) They certainly didn't have some unwritten dress rule to conform to...

I did comply for the next week, along with four of the other mates in my team at the time... Horrendously garish, wide kipper ties from the local charity shops or granddad's wardrobe.... We were told we could remove said ties and nothing more was said! laugh.gif

Went to the Ritz for tea last week - not a suit in sight ..... just trousers and ties. Maybe it's rebellion, I know Kennet School pupils have to wear their ties religiously until the Head decides he is too hot ...... but then The Head isn't charging around the playground playing football at lunch time dry.gif

Who cares, as long as you are comfortable and it's not impairing your ability to work.

I've worked with people who wore a suit but couldn't work out where their bum was without help.

Why not. If they were wearing a suit, I still wouldn't trust them. You can't polish a t**d, but you can get it measured at Saville Row.

As I was getting my interview without coffee from my ex-boss (see above) if I remember rightly I gave a slight "harumph", raised an eye brow Roger Moore stylie and tried my hardest to get one of those thought bubbles to appear above my head like a cartoon saying "Yeah, and if I came in this morning wearing open toed sandals, no tights, a short skirt and a loose blouse like YOU ARE madam I probably wouldn't be sat here right now"

Sex Equality in the Workplace.... dont'cha luv it...!
