You are not suggesting that groups of young men and women will be going to Newbury Races at about 11am in the morning and drinking and gambling all day. Then when they are totally inebriated (and angry having mostly lost a lot of money) they will stagger into town and drink some more and want to fight? Surely not. I'm sure the Hennessy will be a cultured civil affair. blink.gif

I used to go but you could not pay me to too now. Pay 40 quid, crammed in like sardines, massive queues at the bars. Drinks and food at massiveley inflated prices. No ta.

I'd rather watch Denman win the big one on the TV. wink.gif

It's a shame that a few nutjobs have to spoil it as it gives the well behaved, even afer a few bevvies, majority a bad name.

Dare I say it, but the idiots aren't usually indigenous to Newbury.

You may.

And to go one stage further, in my experience they are quite commonly Welsh.

I have quite a few Welsh friends and they are all cool, but for some reason Newbury Races attracts a lot of troublemakers from there.

And Bill1 sits back & waits for the inevitable backlash from the valleys. ohmy.gif

Thing is i often wonder that when the majority of people have to tighten their belts these days, there always seem to be a lot who can ( or maybe cannot ! ) afford to gamble their money away on the Nags. Personally my money is to hard earned to fritter it away.

If we had done the sensible thing and put the Newbury by pass through the middle of the race course then we wouldn't be having this posting .

OK so the local hostelries would suffer but then there wouldn't be so many in the first place . sad.gif

Really, and how many Welsh people do you know well enough to form that opinion?

Not many, I try to avoid them.

If you had made this sweeping statement about Indian/Parkistani people, in fact any nation that is a different colour, it would be labeled racist, so why do you think it's ok to refer to the Welsh in this way? You obviously have little knowledge of them, and I find your remarks offensive.

The people don't need to be of a different colour, in my opinion Strafin's remarks are quite clearly racist. Mods - what do you think?

Welsh, like any other group of people, you get all sorts. I don't think Welsh necessarily breed more yobs per capita, only that when the races are on, it brings them out. I've seen Brummy, Oxford, Swindon and London yobs also.

Sensible post. Yobs can come from anywhere and any walk of life. As can nice people, druggies, charity volunteers, pioneers, mothers and criminals. Life is like a bag of revels.....

So Strafin, you think it's acceptable to base your opinion of a race on your acquaintance with a few.

I wouldn't base my opinion of the English on my feelings about your post, because I don't think for a minute that all the English are narrow-minded, self opinionated or racist.

As for Bill1's post, he was referring to a group of Welsh who visited the event, not the Welsh in general as you put it.
