With wife's car suffering no battery power on Friday, I rang around Saturday morning to get some quotes; this has proved very frustrating.
Kwik Fit: no batteries listed for the vehicle; even though one battery fits various car makes, they had no inclination to help; said I should try Halfords!
Not much choice of good brands on Halfords www
Rang ONE STOP; allegedly open 8-4 on Saturday according to ads; rang 3 times; no answer
Rang Rapid Fit at Gowrings; no answer
Rang Hedley Tyres; they answered quicly, but don't do batteries.
Found a phone book ad for E TYRES, a web supplier who comes and fits, claiming 40% savings, over normal tyre depots; no answer on the Newbury number shown
Tried their Reading number; "We'll ring back in 2 seconds !" Still waiting.
Spoke to one in Thatcham who quoted for an unknown make for £120, 2 year guarantee; ah well a benchmark at last. I find that there are numerous online supliers, who even with an £8 or £9 delivery charge, are competitive for makes I know (Exide/Varta/Bosch with 4 year Guarantees) & one of these will be my choice.

Obviously you weren't in a hurry to get your car back on the road if you are looking to buy online. Were you looking for a battery or a breakdown recovery by the way. If not, there are loads of battery suppliers, Motor Parts Direct in Hambridge Road or Partco on the faraday Rd Estate for instance.

Digressing here slightly but, in the case of flat batteries, always best to find out WHY the battery went flat. You may wast your money on a new one if the cause is not the battery itself but some other reason. If you do need one then, yes agree, MDC are excellent usually and will get you one pronto if they do not have one in stock. (PS In my experience, whatever you do, do not go to Newbury Tyre & Exhaust).

Thanks for that; yes it started after a charge, but is obviously showing first signs of despair (

QUOTE (Biker1 @ Jan 27 2011, 09:01 PM) Look at my profile! Whoaaa! Only a joke! And responded to in the same mindset. Back to the subject, my sons battery failed without warning while out this afternoon. A push start and trip to Halfords, new battery purchased and fitted for £70. I really cannot complain at the price or the service.... And they had a good looking range on the shelf.

QUOTE (Biker1 @ Jan 27 2011, 09:01 PM) Look at my profile! Aaaah, but as we all know, what someone says on here, in a letter, etc, is not always the truth. I think you are Councillor Stansfield....
