QUOTE (Richard Garvie @ May 5 2011, 08:44 AM) I hope everyone goes out to vote today, regardless of political bias. We are very lucky to be able to have free and fair elections, the least we can do is make use of them.
Good lluck to all of the candidates and various parties!!! I'll be making good use of my right not to vote.

Just been down to my polling station where the Lib Dem candidate is sat outside with her arm in a sling. Now that's got to be a good omen. And I can't stand the "don't vote then don't moan blah blah" argument, when our politics is so corrupt.

QUOTE (Turin Machine @ May 5 2011, 09:36 AM) C'mon folks, exercise your hard won right to influence your society. If you don't, you have no right to complain if you don't like what you get afterwards. Why, do you really think anything will be any different under any of the main parties?

QUOTE (Andy Capp @ May 5 2011, 10:59 AM) I feel quite privileged to be voting when many people cannot. Or are forced to.

QUOTE (Simon @ May 5 2011, 11:18 AM) so do you feel that the party you will be voting for will fix the issues you have with our country? I do not not feel any party has the balls to fix whats wrong Quite agree. The main parties live in fear of not being 'PC'. Immigration and Europe for example are two areas where if there was a referendum (like the one on AV that no-one gives a hoot about) then people would in my view chose a different outcome that that of our 'learned' Politicians who know whats best for us.

I do not not feel any party has the balls to fix whats wrong It is not a general election, so your point is rather irrelevant, although people do tend to vote along party lines. It could be said that key marginal local elections are a vote of the public's confidence in the government at this point in time. QUOTE (TallDarkAndHandsome @ May 5 2011, 11:46 AM) Quite agree. 'The people' get the politicians that they deserve. But like I said, these are local elections so the things you list (other than the AV Yes/No referendum) are not up for debate this time.

I know loads of people who do give a "hoot" about it actually.

QUOTE (Simon @ May 5 2011, 09:54 AM) I will also be using my right NOT to vote.
I honestly cannot see the point as NO government actually listen to the people so it doesn't really matter who gets in Quite agree governments only listen to the Financiers and business Local Councils on listen to developers and business. Ordinary taxpayers are only there to keep the councils in a job. Total waste of time and effort!

So if I vote for someone who I believe will do a bad job, and whom I disagree with on a major issue, I have a right to complain when they do exactly what they said they were going to do?

Which is a good case for having 'none of the above' on the paper. What would happen if that election was the majority?
