That was one of the flags in a picture round on Pointless and it had about the lowest recognition count of all five shown. The clue is the C shape.

What is it with pointless organisations that inspire them to create unrecognisable and unnecessary flags?

At an old company we supported some Commonwealth group.
They had an issue with their Intranet (which they had just developed and rolled out).
It only had the error in Internet Explorer 6 (by far and away the worst browser in the world).
IE7, 8 and 9 (10 + was not around at the time) worked fine, so did Chrome and Firefox.

I found some notes on Microsoft's website pertaining to the exact fault they were having, explained to them this was a compatibility issue and the fix would be to upgrade from IE6 to either a later version or use a different browser.

Where as any other customer would have thanked me and taken the information, the dude at this Commonwealth thingy complained to my management, saying the resolution was not acceptable, and that we had to get Internet Explorer 6 to work with their intranet..

I've worked with many companies over the years, they were one of the most difficult to deal with.

Pity that the Telegraph article has gone (unless the link was faulty), and the channelweb page is behind a paywall.

Unbelievable that public bodies are still running XP. It's bad enough with private users.

Actually, if the software does the job, what's wrong with that? For the most part, these job roles haven't changed fundamentally in 13 years, so what's being 'improved'? Perhaps Microsoft sold a product which wasn't fit for purpose originally! Frankly, this 'upgrade' every few months and pay us vast sums of money in licence fees and migration costs wouldn't be accepted in any other industry, would it?

Ahem... Agri-business has already developed genetically-modified terminator technology that flips a kill-switch in second-generation seed so that farmers cannot re-sow saved seed and must buy first-generation seed each years from the agri-business suppliers. There's something of a UN moratorium on the technology, but that may not last.

I feel computer usage is a greater threat than the OS they use. I'd upgrade to Win7 simply because it is better in almost every respect than XP. If budget is an issue, then the latest Unbuntu offerings are good enough now.

Yes, I forgot that! Makes you wonder where all that will take us; presumably the 'scientists' will be able to produce plants that inhibit conception in humans soon...

It's not what yer got, it's what yer do with it.
If the pooter is being used solely for internal work, then it won't matter.

Assuming the network security and firewall is sound, corporate anti-virus is up-to-date and external access
is restricted.

New is not always better.
