QUOTE (Andrea @ Aug 9 2011, 09:49 PM) Don't think anything's gonna happen to be honest... Most people in this town can't be bothered! Strange thing to say! do you want them to be "bothered" to go out and ruin some poor persons life.

QUOTE (Richard Garvie @ Aug 9 2011, 09:57 PM) Nothing has happened in Newbury tonight. User23, I'm refering to those on social media sites and BBM (some kind of messaging thing) I've not seen anything on Twitter or Facebook from anyone saying they were intent on starting trouble. All I've seen is lots of people talking about rumours, in fact even the NWN are at it. BBM is Blackberry Messenger, by the way.

No and you've read too much into my post, it was as simple as it sounds - They can't be bothered to do anything - whether that be rioting or simply getting a job.

QUOTE (spartacus @ Aug 9 2011, 10:56 PM) In light of last week's front page headline on the NWN, can the journos perhaps get a grip and report with a better sense of proportion in future... This is fine until you land a job where how much you get paid depends on how many units you shift.

User23, I'm refering to those on social media sites and BBM (some kind of messaging thing) Only Smartphones have this. Androids don't. The BBM service was thought to be 'closed' and therefore became the handset of choice for the majority of young people. Sadly, it turns out that the messages sent can still be read by the old bill. (that'll cause some the little scrotes a few sleepless nights). Vodafone have also instigated the Ac**** protocol in some towns which has made contact between groups on the streets almost impossible. Every little helps.

QUOTE (spartacus @ Aug 9 2011, 11:18 PM) You're right I suppose... This is leafy Berkshire after all.
Not going to flog many copies with a headline of
In Newbury, yet again nothing happened! And long may it stay that way...... Who would want a battle in Newbury?

QUOTE (Andrea @ Aug 9 2011, 09:49 PM) My housemate got a text saying riots are kicking off in Turnpike? Not sure if it's true but sounds about right... Probably, it's Turnpike!

Friend also just drove through Newbury and said it was very quiet. Don't think anything's gonna happen to be honest... Most people in this town can't be bothered! Not true at all about Turnpike

QUOTE (Criddleback @ Aug 10 2011, 11:45 AM) Not only did nothing happen last night, but the Deputy Prime Minister walked into St Nics hall and spoke for two hours without any incident. No fires then......just a lot of hot air! Would have thought he could have found something more important to do with the present state of the country! Or did Dave tell him to just keep out of the way so as not to inflame the situation!

Or did Dave tell him to just keep out of the way so as not to inflame the situation! he was touring looting areas in Birmingham yesterday pm and attending the Cobra mtg in the am. He cancelled 2 meetings in the south west scheduled for yesterday but went ahead with the Newbury one in the evening. Surely he shouldn't be scared off all normal democratic activity by a few mindless, criminal thugs should he?
