And he'll be out in 6 months. He'll probably be put up in a hostel next to a school playground on release. blink.gif

Yay! big up to the person(s) who passed this sentence! Now you can all go home and give yourselves a big pat on the back while sat in your ivory castles, seperated from the real world by, oh let's say 6 trillion light years!

As a certain 'comedy' character may say:-

"What a ****in' liberty!!" angry.gif

Sadly too lenient sentences seem to be the norm these days, so maybe people just read, shrug their shoulders and move on.

Bollards are second only to football it seems, and equally as riveting. rolleyes.gif

I do understand your annoyance that people seem to be ignoring the thread, but there are only so many times you can say the same thing. Sentencing is far too lenient for most offences and we can say it until we are blue in the face, but no-one listens. sad.gif

It all boils down to those in power knowing best !
Did they not once reflect the views of those they represent ?
Or was this another case of rose coloured glasses .

Bollards are contentious, where as I would imagine we are all in agreement on this. I don't fancy the perpetrators life from here on though.

Unfortunately there are guidelines in sentencing that have to be followed in order to maintain consistancy across the board. I should imagine that some judges go home totally frustrated with the sentences that they have had to pass. They have feelings too you know and are also possibly parents.

They have to take into account the fact that he pleaded guilty, he was cooperative, he showed remorse and his pre-sentencing reports.

What you also seem to have missed is the fact that he had already spent 107 days in custody. This comes off his total sentence so he will only spend just less than 3 months inside.

You also have to remember that there is a shortage of prison spaces at the moment as well. It's not good.

We understand all that, but what we are saying is that the guidelines need reviewing.

Like I've said before - when a political organisation comes up with policies on toughening up on things like this they are branded "right wing extremists".

On this subject; there was a programme on last night on paedophiles and how the police track them down (through the Internet etc) and arrest them. Some got anything from 6 months and put on the sex register list for 10 years to longer sentences and life on the sex register list. The ones that get lowly sentences usually reoffend. Someone who is a paedophile isn’t going to be cured so putting them on the register for a limited time or only giving them 6 months or a suspended sentence seems pointless. There was one person who had sex with an 18 month baby (plus older children and had over 1,000 of photos on his computer); he got about 8 years. With good behaviour he’ll be out in half the time (even though he'll be on the sex register list for life). The police said that they reckon that there are over 100,000 committing sex crimes in this country alone (if not more).

Yes they are but they are calling for the very things that are being suggested on here in their crime & punishment policy.

And this is why the BNP are starting to gain votes.
If the main stream parties continue not to listen to the public asking for a more stringent line on crime and ASB and continue to demonstrate a contempt such as the expenses scandal then you can be sure that more people will vote for the BNP or UKIP.
Bit of a worry eh?
