The website states they are targeting a Bank and not Vodafone as in the report in Newbury today.

Looks like they're protesting a variety of shops and banks including Boots and Vodafone, from the website.

Amazing how incredibly quiet they were in the years from 1997 up until May 2010 isn't it? Them and the Labour party did bugger all about it until Labour found themselves back in opposition. rolleyes.gif

Besides Vodafone, some of their anger is directed at Barclays Bank and their tax avoidance for what was it, 2008/2009 tax year? Who was in Government then? L'L'L'La....

Funny how it's only now that the lefties have woken up, I do love the smell of lefty hypocrisy in the afternoons. laugh.gif

Is this a Labour party sanctioned initiative? I would imagine activists would stage a protest regardless of who was in power.

Looking for a bandwagon to jump on? wink.gif

It's a national protest organised, it looks to me, by someone associated with the Green Party.

Can't see how you work that out - would welcome a steer.

There seems to be TU support for some aspects.....

Good luck to them, I don't normally condone protests and I don't think it will make a difference but it got me reading their website and they seem to make a lot of sense.

Just curious. I best stay away, otherwise it will be passed off as a political stunt!!! Nothing to do with Labour for those who asked, First I heard was reading it on here this afternoon.

The ethos they espouse is Socialist, and they are supported in part by some Trade Unions. Not exactly True Blue Tory, in my book.
The fact you didn't know doesn't mean anything, as the 'organisation' is the loose cell system that makes legal controls of the activities very difficult.

I didn't say - or intend to imply - clandestine. What I meant was (as they say) the events are all 'spontaneous', set off by a local activist/supporter. Thus when the police/Council want to impose any restrictions, develop a plan for managing the peaceful protest, it is all but impossible to identify the 'organiser'.

Good luck to them I say, businesses should be paying their tax bills. I wonder if Bob Diamond will take any notice though?

Businesses do pay their tax bills - in accordance with the Finance Acts passed by the Government of the day.
The recent fusses have followed from pre 2010 Finance Acts. While I'm not convinced the changes you may desire will take place, they had more chance then than now, I suspect.

There are many businesses who do not pay what they should, but if I didn't pay tax I'd soon be carted off to a court somewhere.

'Should' as in 'according to law', or as in 'in my personal opinion'?

Great so if it turns violent (has been known to), it will require extra police and clean up crews afterwards, which means us tax payers end up paying for it in next year's council tax. I wish these lefties (green party, labour party, unions or whoever) would sod off and organise their protests in a way which doesn't mean I am forced to fund it. sad.gif
