QUOTE (Timbo @ Sep 10 2012, 05:27 PM) If people want to post, they will. It does no harm to encourage the lurkers though. I would welcome a greater variety fo views and experience and I hope a few lurkers are encouraged by the OP to dip their toe in. As an aside, I had a look at the member list sorterd by number of posts, and mostly the top sixty contributors are still visiting regularly, though some haven't posted regularly for a while. I miss Richard Garvie's posts as his challenge was refreshing, and I miss my friend Bofem's insightful posts, and I miss Iommi and the irreverent Xjay though sometimes it feels as if they never really left. I think two good tips for surviving on the forum are to post only opinions that you're able to defend, and to attack the issue, not the person.

QUOTE (JaneGibbs @ Sep 10 2012, 05:40 PM) Hi, I am somebody who has recently just sighed up. I did view the forum for quite a while before having the nerve to sign up. You may think it is easy to just sign up and start writing but it can be quite daunting when you are not used to writing on public forums. But I will try to participate and look at it as a challenge. I just hope what I write makes sense? Welcome aboard Jane, very pleased you joined us.

QUOTE (Simon Kirby @ Sep 10 2012, 05:46 PM) I miss Richard Garvie's posts as his challenge was refreshing New Labour love-in going on? I would post more, but there are just too many insults going around and too little actual discussion. I feel sorry for anyone here how tries to take an alternative view.

QUOTE (Simon Kirby @ Sep 10 2012, 05:47 PM) Welcome aboard Jane, very pleased you joined us. Who's job is it to "welcome people aboard"? What does your status have to be to do so? A regular poster? (define that.) An irregular poster? (or that.) An administrator? Captain?? Anyway, welcome aboard Jane!

An administrator? Captain?? Anyway, welcome aboard Jane! It's really just a matter of being polite and friendly isn't it? Joining a new forum can be an intimidating experience, because you can only guage so much from lurking, you never know how your own opinions will be received.

Welcome Jane , please feel free to write what you like ,when you like and how you like on any subject . Do not worry about the small element that likes to criticize the individual as opposed to their views . We have an annual shoot to keep their numbers in check.....
